With every book I read, I learn more about my taste. I prefer stories with more plot.

A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson was, for me, a bit lackluster. It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, but it also wasn’t the best—it fell somewhere in between. Gibson’s writing is undeniably beautiful, with strong prose, vivid detail, and carefully built character development. However, the story itself just didn’t land the way I hoped. While I appreciated the atmosphere and the unique premise, the plot felt flat and failed to fully pull me in.

In the end, it’s a book I can recognize as well-crafted, but it simply didn’t resonate with me the way I expected.

This was absolutely fantastic. So atmospheric and vivid in the creation of this world, I felt like I was right there in Mistaken with the characters. The town is protected from the monsters that roam the wilds, but it also keeps its residents trapped within its borders.

Preparing to participate in the Hunt and finally marry the man she's loved for a decade, Greer is more than ready to go. But the lands have other plans, and instead of being there for the Hunt, he leaves the warding behind and ventures into the wild where he disappears. Greer will do anything to get him back, so she sets off into the unknown.

So many secrets, so much power, so much devastation. As Greer looks for Ellis, she finds far more about the creatures and herself than she ever imagined possible.

This book is a literal drug. Finished it in one sitting & enjoyed every second- in fact I wish it was a few hundred pages longer. Will now be reading every book this author releases for all of time. I’m going to come back and add in some of my favorite quotes as soon as I finish pondering my mortality, thank you very much.

The writing is gorgeous! The author does a fantastic job painting atmosphere, setting and characters, despite an uncomplicated plot. I enjoyed this very much.
