Such an interesting and unique way to tell a story and with such moody writing. I immediately didn't love the story, but after pondering on it for a few days, it's grown on me. The story isn't very long and doesn't spend a lot of time lingering on details and I think that may be why my immediate thoughts weren't so warm towards the book. But this is one where the atmosphere around the story is just immaculate.

Definitely would recommend reading this during the autumnal season for a peak reading experience.

This was alright, but even though the characters' genders and ages were changed, the parallels with Interview with the Vampire are difficult to ignore.

I picked this up because I thought it was a retelling of Dracula's three brides, and it isn't. Even though all of the characters are ostensibly bisexual, their relationships to each other felt very heteronormative.

A perfect end to a tale of love and lost. I love how the author shows us his manipulation and the terror he put in each of his lovers and how he eventually through so much pain and suffering forced them to break free from their capture and his dangerous love.

Plot or Character Driven: Character

Meh, wasn't a bad read by any means but it wasn't super captivating.

i was told this book was a story of dracula's wives told from the perspective of one of the wives and i was SOLD. it's October which is the perfect time to read this and lemme just say this book was an amazing read. i really liked the style and format of this book. it was told through letters from the wife to her husband. you never learn her husband's name, for she didn't think he deserved one. it was so interesting to read and perfectly showed the relationship between the two, both sweet and sour. perfect and toxic at the same time ugh it was so good

A queer re-imagining of Dracula’s brides, spanning many centuries and traveling to many countries.

A Dowry of Blood is the story of Constanta, "saved" from death by a vampire, trapped in an unhealthy relationship and her struggle to get out from under his influence.

If you like vampires, queer romance novels and the like, then this one might be for you. In some ways it reminded me of 'Blood & Chocolate', although I feel that 'A Dowry of Blood' has a better message at its core. It's a quick read, perfect for rainy evenings.

Personally, I couldn't quite connect with it. Maybe because I wanted to get to know the times and places they were in a little better, maybe because, since the book is not very long, the subtext has to be quite overt at times.
