At first on my reread of this I felt like it took a  lot longer to get going than I had previously remembered. However, once it did... it might be one of the most well-worked of Pratchett's narratives and certainly had me close to tears across the last 50 pages. I don't think it's quite my favourite Discworld book (although it's close) but I think it might be the best one.

Read it a month late but it is still as wonderful as I remember.

Night Watch is pretty funny, although I feel this book leans more on the insightful and thought-provoking side which was a nice side journey along the Discworld path.
