I absolutely hated this book.
The story follows Charlie Decker, a senior high school student, who shots 2 of his teachers, and takes the whole class hostage. He doesn't have a goal, or at least it doesn't seems like he has any other than "telling his story" of why he took up his father's gun, and went to school killing human beings.

And it's a load of cr*p. No matter how much I like Stephen King, how much I look up to him, Rage is not a good book. First: Charlie makes the reader want to bash his skull in, or at least open him up slowly to feel pain. Charlie doesn't know the word empathy, I don't even think he even heard the word, but self-pity? Oh man... self-pity rules everything in Charlie's world.
And sorry, I don't give a rat's ass if you don't agree with this. Charlie is nothing more and nothing less than a killer. He can talk for a week, but that doesn't changes the fact, that he knowingly killed people, and did other stuff. And the reason I came to this conclusion is because for me, his character was written the worst possible way. His character wasn't a good example of great writing, which is a joke if you think about how Stephen King is one of (or the) best character writer of our era. And I don't know if he wrote this book when he was young or not, but this book.... no, it's just a big no. Charlie was the biggest stereotipical person I could have imagined in this scenario, and I was disappointed. Because at the end of the day, Charlie's reason for being like this, is because he was abused as a kis. And that is fu*ked up. If every kid who was ever abused became a killer, no person would walk this planet.

But apart from Charlie (god, I didn't know I could hate a fictional person this much), my other huge problem with this book is with his classmates, whom Charlie held hostage.
Man, it's just fu*ked up! They don't even scream when Charlie pops their teacher in front of them, they sit in silence, and act nonchalantly. They start to talk with Charlie, listen to his BS, and only one of them, Ted is trying to voice his concern. That guy alone had common sense, the others.... I mean look... I get it, if you have a bad life, but when you have the chance to step outside of a hostage situation, YOU DON'T WALK BACK INTO IT!
Because what do you think happens? One of the girls asks Charlie to let her go to the bathroom, and he allows it. The girl goes outside, and after a few minutes, she walks back.
I mean.... you really want to make me believe that that is a situation that can happen in real life?
Uh.
NO.

So no. I'm not even wasting any more words for this story. Rage is a huge no, and not because of its' topic, but because it is badly written. I'm fairly sure if King hadn't written 3 other books before this was published, Rage wouldn't have happened.

Un libro que se lee muy rápido. Todos conocen el trasfondo de la historia, no hay más que agregar. La traducción fue realmente confusa, probablemente en inglés lo hubiera disfrutado más. Igualmente me pareció bueno.

Really bad. Stupid and needlessly edgy. Some tense moments but they're few and far between. Characters are all assholes and they all respect the school shooter for some reason. SK was right to pull this one; its so bad its kind of harmful.
