The first book I don’t think I can give a rating for. Thank you Stephen King for pulling this from circulation.

Listen, I understand why this went out of print, but good Lord, would this work as a cautionary tale. It gets to a point in the story where it isn’t about the guns anymore. It's about the violence to which kids are exposed, not only from the media but also stemming from things around them: their families, their friends, the society that enables those behaviors. Charlie Decker is a criminal, yes. Murdering your teachers and holding your class hostage is terrible. But he is also mentally ill and has screamed for support his entire life. No one listened. And now it's time for him to act on it.

Stephen King is such an incredible writer, and to see that works like these were an outlet for him to speak out without the consequences being linked to his name is amazing. Rage is not just about a school shooting—I've seen many people describe this book as just that. It's about kids who are just as broken as he is. The class he takes hostage learns from him just as much as he learns from them. He learns about his classmates who have been sexually harassed since puberty, about classmates who can't even afford to have good things, all of which he would have not known otherwise. I'm not saying we should lock people up and get them talking, but I think it's such an ironic why to express that kids quite literally need to be pushed to talk about their feelings.

This is essentially The Breakfast Club on steroids and gunpowder.

There was a good book here but it’s buried in the uncharacteristic juvenility of the writing. Certainly a disturbing book.

I don't like that I don't like Stephen King. I respect him, I think he's a good writer. However when I read him I just glide across the words not absorbing anything. I feel like if I give any greater reason I'll come off as knowing more than King himself. Which I don't. I respect his monopoly over the horror genre, I respect his writing and his work ethic. I don't like reading him. Even the books I have liked by him I always felt started strong and struggled to land. This book I had some interest in probably from some YouTube essay I can't remember but starting it up I got burned out faster than my interest for it began.

So far 2 for 2 on the Bachmans. This one was just as dark but had a bit more of a tough to relate aspect obviously. But still extremely enjoyable quick reading.
