This is a fun take on filling in details from before the main series. The attitude written in felt very real and it made it a fun story.

Mind-numbingly dull. Unsympathetic main character. Poorly written. Tries to be funny but fails. 400 pages too long. Fixated on race and gender. Lessens the original books.
The finale really made me feel as though we were closing a door on this series, it was my first love and foray into the fantasy genre and I must have read this book dozens of times. Unsurprisingly Pol feels so much closer to our characters and families, there's a lot of re-treading but enough new material to keep you interested.
It's been over 7 years since I read the original series, perhaps it's time to fix that.

Like the singular book Belgarath the Sorcerer, this book is all about Polgara's life before everything happens with Garion and how she came to be his guardian. It talks about her relationship with her sister and how she watches over the family she is apart of. Very well written and its a good book from Pol's point of view.
