Zane Windsor and Celeste Harrison were each other's first loves. They work in competing family businesses, but despite all of that, they can't stay away from each other. Once childhood rivals have now become a power couple - toeing that thin line between love and hate. But a tragedy tears them apart and questioning everything. After years of mutual sabotage, their grandparents force them into one thing they both would never want - a merger via marriage.
What I liked: THIS. This plot line was great - we hear about them as children, as adults, and then 5 years later. When the couple is happy before the halfway mark of the book, you just know its gonna go downhill and get juicy! I also liked that the root of their conflict wasn't one that was just waved away and magically resolved. They had to fight for it every day. Also, the spice was perfection!

When I read a book, I usually check how many pages it is so that I can gauge how long or how many days I will be spending to finish that particular book. So when I saw that this book has 500 pages, I was like, why would you need a contemporary romance to be that long? And when I saw that the story was written from past to present, I thought that the narrative would be rough, but in a good way, like it would be very detailed and everything would be discussed.
To be honest, I like how the story evolved and progressed, but I'm not a fan of a very chronological type of storytelling.
What I really enjoy are bits and pieces of the plot being revealed little by little. In that way, it will pique my interest as to what happened in the past.
That was just my preference as a reader, but as for this one, it still works for me even if it was written in a chronological order. Though there was a reveal at the latter part of the story.
I also kinda knew that there was something wrong with Lily few chapters in so it was no surprise when I read the revelation about her character. But I would have to say that it was well infused within the story. This part was definitely a movie material.
I love the small details from this book and I guess that's what makes a good romance book.
It's not really about big gestures, but it's really from the little things, and I admire Catharina Maura for being so artistic with her details. I really enjoyed every bit of it, especially the color of the nail polish of Celeste chooses.
As for the characters, I really enjoy alpha characters, Zane and Celeste were both strong characters, and I enjoyed how their relationship started from enemies to lovers, to enemies, and then lovers again.
The only thing to find annoying from all the books of this series is that it has a little bit of unnecessary subplots towards the end. I do get that they were trying to rebuild the relationship, but the push and pull was very redundant, and I don't think the island part was necessary, going back and forth multiple times from what has been established in the middle part was just too much.
As for the side characters, I really enjoyed everyone's appearance and the role they played in this book.
I think at this point that I would definitely finish this series, and I think that Lex's story would be fun and crazy.

I won’t lie it took me a minute to get into it but the way the couple grows together at the end of the book is just *chefs kiss* I haven’t seen many books where the “third act break up” wasn’t the MMC so it was refreshing to have it the FMC. The way they build back their trust for one another through communication, therapy, and patience was honestly written beautifully. Oh and the spice was definitely spicing! Keep tissues nearby for this book!
