⚠️TW : murder, torture ⚠️

💭 Overall thoughts:
I was bored and found myself closing out of my Kindle app to see what else was happening in the world rather than being sucked into the book. It had some interesting parts, but for the most part there was too much politics in this for my liking. 3/5⭐

⚠️ SPOILERS IN FORM OF MY PLAY-BY-PLAY THOUGHTS ⚠️

I don't think I remember Alice having a sister in the movie?

Is Mr. Willard the Mad Hatter?

Mrs. Pogysdunhow is the Queen of Hearts? At least in the portrait? Could explain why she was constantly yelling..

Hmmm. Mathilda say the portrait as Mrs. Pogysdunhow..

I'm guessing Mr. Katz is the Cheshire or the White Rabbit and Aunt Vivian is the caterpillar..

Ha, I was right about Aunt Vivian!

Oh dang. Alice's self-portrait made this book turn dark..

I never really gave much thought as to who Mary Ann was in Alice in Wonderland.

I never read the Alice in Wonderland book, I only saw the movies, and it's been a long time since watching the cartoon adaptation.. so I'm having a difficult time remembering things.

Everything is red.. as in "painting the roses red"?

"She felt very unsettled and anxious, as if something terrible had happened or was about to happen, like descriptions she had read of the battlefields in the American Civil War, when brother found brother in battle, wearing the opposite side’s colors. Things were familiar but horrible. Everything was red and terrifying. If photographs came in color she was sure her picture of the Queen of Hearts would have been in all these shades of red as well." This particular paragraph was in chapter 5 twice within 4/5 paragraphs of each other.. was this intentional or an accident?

Will the people in her world die if their Wonderland counterpart dies?

Again with the dark... Hatter having a missing eye..

Is the white rabbit bad? I'm confused as to what's going on in this bird village..

I'm definitely lost in what's going on..

I find it hard to believe she was supposed to be 7 when she first came to Wonderland..

Mary Ann is dead?

No. Did the Knave betray Alice?

Mrs. Yao's teashop a victim of a hate crime...

Is the Mrs. Yao going to be the March Hare?

I'm not a fan of the political bits of the book.. if I wanted to listen or read about politics I'd be watching and reading the news..

Mrs. Yao is the Queen of Clubs in Wonderland..

So where are all the other royal cards?

Who is trying to take her camera? One of the people with the candidate for mayor?

She's probably in a hospital in England after she was mugged.

Okay.. so she isn't in a hospital in England..

But why does she want the end of wonderland?

Why does the Queen of Clubs keep saying "we" instead of me or I..

Some wonderlandians can go to Angleland? Was it a wonderlandian who tried to take her camera? Didn't want her to find out who amongst them had a double in her world?

Dookie tower??

Holy shit she was stabbed in the heart!

Is Coney the Knave? Coney "found" the body.. I think if it wasn't him who robber her for her camera it was someone who works for him.. and I think he didn't want her being able to see who had a Wonderlandian counterpart.

He wants the kids searched for a missing camera, when she never said what was stolen.. 👀

Good to know that if you're counterpart dies in wonderland you don't die in Angleland as proof of the photo of the March Hare.

Ugh. Ramsbottom is so icky.

Mr. Katz is the Cheshire! I was right! Hmmm. Maybe that makes Coney the White Rabbit..

So, Wonderland was going to end anyway even if Alice didn't help..

Alice kissed Katz.. scandalous..

I will say I liked knowing about the fact that Katz and Alice married and had children.

This was more of a sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass than a retelling, which was different than the other books in this series that I have previously read. I liked the nods to the original story but I thought that the plot was a bit too slow for me.
