Chiang clearly has knowledge of tech startups and of AI machine learning concepts, and that is where you can see his expertise.

Unfortunately, the storytelling is graceless and artless. There are more timeskips than I could count and each move forward in the story is told the same way (then this happened, then this happened). Overall I wouldn't recommend this novella.

This book is a very interesting take on A.I. as something that must me raised and trained as opposed to something that gets plugged in and is automatically super intelligent. A nice change and interesting look at how human relationships (not just romantic) can develop with A.I. creatures.

I really enjoyed this exploration of society's responsibility to virtual intelligence/ life. A bit dry, Chiang didn't waste time with embellishments which I liked.
