I honestly think I’ve never read a more disturbing book than 'You‘. I legit felt like I was being watch the whole time that I was reading this.

I watched the show first and have watched it many times but the book still managed to shock me. The disturbing inner monologue of Joe Goldberg had my jaw on the floor, me gasping, cringing and contemplating who the hell comes up with this kind of stuff. The book is brilliant

I read this book a few years ago (I’m guessing about 3 years ago I think) and I remembered it as being very creepy and entertaining. This has not changed. It was still as entertaining this time around and I loved it as much, if not more, than the last time.
The cognitive dissonance between Joe’s perception of himself and others versus his actions is so strong and interesting. This man will full on call others weirdos and creeps while hestalks Beck, breaks into her house, hacks her emails and does many other things. And, while most of the time he seems to misread social cues, every now and then he will correctly perceive something. This makes him somehow even more creepy, if that is possible. It shows that he understands, but chooses to ignore cues and take in others on a very arbitrary basis.
This is one of my favorite case of unreliable narrator. If you take the time to analyse Joe and the way he tells this story, you will have so much fun asking yourself ‘is that really how it happened?’
Honestly, if you want a good creepy read, this is an amazing choice. I would recommend it to anyone.
