i adored this. hannah and garrett have my heart. the spice was amazing, the tenderness and love between these characters! i loved the honesty and communication between them and the way their love story developed. wasn’t a fan of the reason for the 3rd-act break-up but i loved garrett’s unwavering faith in their love to get the answers he needed to get them back together. i loved hannah’s viewpoints about her past and that they both helped each other to heal parts of themselves that hadn’t yet healed from their past traumas but i liked how hannah had already healed a lot and had a good viewpoint from the experiences of her past.
the only thing i didn’t like was that there was no resolution to hannah’s parents situation, it felt unresolved

I absolutely loved this book. Hannah and Garrett are literal perfection.

I loved both of their character developments so much. Garrett going from the typical “I don’t do girlfriends” to him falling first was beautiful and written in a way that was believable. His patience, determination, affection, care, and gentleness with Hannah makes him such a stand up dude and I loved him so much. Definitely a great way to dip my toes into hockey romance.

As a hockey fan, I appreciated that the terminology of the game was accurate for the most part and either Elle did a lot of research or she is a huge hockey fan which makes me love her writing even more.

Absolutely will be continuing the series and then the graham effect 🤍

Was this good? No. But was it entertaining? I guess 😂

Elle Kennedy's books are constantly popping up and I love a hockey romance so I decided to give this series a go. Trying to give the benefit of the doubt because this was originally written in 2015.. but it was so cringey 😭 Also there were so many things that didn't make sense to me- the main thing being the fact that Garrett is supposed to be the star player of the hockey team which is also the biggest sport at this college and he doesn't have a scholarship?? That just makes zero sense to me

To elaborate on the cringiness- the author mentions so many times that Garrett or whatever other supposedly hot guys look so hot with their thumbs in their belt loops and I'm just like??? This has never ever actually looked cool 😭 also they all wear cargo pants 😭

Also Hannah was kind of the worst?? She is no not a girl's girl and I find it really weird that when she refers to her best friend she's like "I can totally picture her starring in a romantic comedy. She's not Angelina Jolie-beautiful, but she's got a cute, fresh-faced look" like??? that is such a weird thing to say

I could go on and on about all the issues I had with this book lol

Also, beware that there is quite a lot of talk about a past rape in this book, somewhat graphically. Also a lot of talk about past physical abuse and some allusion to current physical abuse.

Anyways, I'm gonna go read the next book now because Logan was the real star of this one and he's the MMC in the next one soooo

Rating: 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Deal
Elle Kennedy
Book #1 in Off-Campus Series

Trigger warning: SA, domestic violence, child abuse.

SUMMARY:
Hannah Wells, confident in most aspects of her life, decides to step out of her comfort zone to catch the attention of her crush, Garrett Graham. In a deal to make another guy jealous, she agrees to tutor Garrett, the cocky captain of the hockey team, in exchange for a pretend date. However, what starts as a charade takes an unexpected turn when a kiss leads to intense passion! As Garrett aims for a professional hockey career, he realizes pretending isn't enough and strives to show Hannah that the man she desires might be closer than she thinks.

MY THOUGHTS 💭
From enemies to lovers, every page is a journey of heartwarming moments that had me hooked 🥰

Despite the fast-paced read, the story weaves through tough subjects with a soft touch. The cute and funny moments add layers to the story, creating a sweet balance. Garrett’s unwavering devotion to Hannah adds an extra sprinkle of sweetness ☺️

It's not just a love story; it's a thoughtful exploration of challenging themes. It delves into sensitive topics like SA, domestic violence, and child abuse. The author handles these with care, making it more than just a romance novel.

I can’t wait to start the next book in the series!

Highkey fun to read. Not a literary masterpiece but was really addicting and fun.
