Heard on audiobook. I enjoyed my first Baldacci book and I think I will listen to another one day. Good mystery and suspense in this thriller.

Good read

Having read the others in the series I enjoyed seeing how king and Maxwell started. They are two good characters and was an enjoyable fast paced read

My 6P review: Premise, Plot, People, Place, Prose/Pace, Praise

Eight years ago whilst on protection detail, Sean King’s candidate was shot and killed. Michelle Maxwell’s candidate has just been kidnapped. The two of them pair up to uncover the connection between the two incidents.

This was a really good thriller, and very easy to read. There was a real sense of danger the heart rate certainly climbed whilst reading it.

I loved the characters, Sean, Michelle and Joan. They were well written and I felt like I was riding alongside them all.

This was well written with breakneck speed and the suspense kept me captivated.

This was a brilliant start to the series.

I will definitely be reading this series.

4.5 stars

Love this series!

Guessing till the end! Will I ever crack one of these?

My review, a haiku:

Many tropes abound.
No original thought found.
I am dumber now.

A fast-paced and complex thriller with interesting characters and a convoluted plot. I enjoyed it quite a bit, although I found the ultimate motivation for the whole intrigue a bit of a let-down. Still, I'm looking forward to reading more about these characters and will be checking out the next book about them.

Enjoyed this more than some of his others that I have read. The early introductory chapters were short and snappy and sucked me right in, enjoyed the set-up and introduction of King and Maxwell. The conclusion of this book was a bit far-fetched, but believable - started the next already :)

Just under 3 stars for this one, the first in the King & Maxwell series. Man, talk about a plot that was pretty darn convoluted and hard to follow... I guess I liked the premise that 2 former disgraced Secret Service agents team up to solve each other's cases and then become private eyes together but this one makes the reader work too hard to keep up. I may give #2 a chance but probably not for awhile until I work thru some other tried and true authors and their series.

Split Second by David Baldacci is the first instalment of the Sean King and Michelle Maxwell series and it sets the stage for five more novels so far with the Secret Service duo. Eight years ago King was responsible for taking his eyes off of his protectee, during which time the politician was murdered. He left the Secret Service and rebuilt his life as a lawyer. Maxwell, in the present day, managed to lose her protectee when he was kidnapped under her watch. With her career in tatters, her path crosses with King’s, accidentally on purpose, when she begins investigating the circumstances of the events that ended his career at the Secret Service. The pair join together to research how and why their cases seem similar. This is a strong beginning to a fast-paced thriller series with interesting characters and a solid plot. Highly recommended.
