I have read this book twice now, every time it’s a great read. The story of character development after a tragic accident is thoroughly explored, while the romance is growing along with it. The book is way better than the show if you ask me.

Jackie Howard woke up one afternoon, and her entire life changed. Before, she had two loving parents and an older sister. But after, she was all alone. After the funeral, Jackie finds out that she’ll be moving in with her mom’s best friend. This also means that Jackie is moving in with 12 other kids—11 of them boys. These boys also happen to be super attractive and charming, so of course there is the possibility of romance.
This one had a lot of potential, but it also has so, so many problems. Even though I’m an adult, and a mom myself, I’ve never lost my love for YA. I also used to teach freshmen, so I just love that coming of age peak I guess. But you can definitely tell that this book wasn’t written by an adult, since there are at least 15 different plot holes for why Jackie shouldn’t be leaving everything that’s familiar to her and moving in with a hoard of boys while she’s grieving. Or even just in general. And the plot holes don’t stop there. Even the cute moments can’t patch this sinking ship.
Honestly, I read this so I can watch the Netflix series. Will I complain throughout the entire thing for the same reasons? Perhaps. But I’ve never been able to endure the siren song of a book being adapted for the screen, so here we are.
