Pre read hoping I could read this with my daughter and watch the show. (How did this get a show?)
I kept thinking this could get better or it would’ve been a DNF. It was messy, characters were not developed, easy to figure out what was going to happen and the plot could have been so much better getting to the same point. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. Better “coming of age” stories to read. I didn’t like the romanticism of red flags in some of the “Walter boys” or the sexual harassment the main character faced throughout the story.

Moderate: Death of parent
A great story of healing and grief. Would love to visit Jackie in 5 or 10 years and see what she has done with her life.
And lets not forget all the boys.
Higly recommended
Now I get to watch it on Neteflix, had to read it first.

Watched the entire show and loved it so much so I couldn’t wait for the book! But honestly this book is a huge let down compared to the show. I need more Cole!!!!
It’s a 2011 period piece for sure. Lol but for real, I would’ve been obsessed if I read it when I was younger.

I picked this book up because I watched the show on Netflix. I was nervous about reading it because I was so disappointed by the "Summer I Turned Pretty" book series after watching the show. I shouldn't have worried- I really enjoyed this book even with the differences from the show.
Having watched the show helped me to separate all the siblings in my mind and go ahead and give them a "face" to keep track, but reading the book gave so much more insight into the characters, especially Isaac and Lee. I will confess I was sad the Will/Hayley storyline wasn't part of the book, and neither was the Nathan/Skylar story. I missed those. But, I enjoyed the reasoning behind the Alex breakup, even though that's not something that's come up in the show - but I doubt it's going to end that cleanly. Cole's issues were downplayed a lot more in the book, but they also didn't need to be a big focal point in that story. I did love the addition of Jackie keeping in touch with her best friend from New York- it felt really harsh in the show that she literally never talked to anyone from home again.
Honestly, my biggest disappointment is that this isn't a book series. I would love to continue reading, but Novak did wrap it up in a way that doesn't feel like a cliffhanger though it could be continued later if she wants. So, fingers crossed that she decides to toss another one out there. If not, hopefully Netflix will keep it going so I can spend more time with Jackie and the Walter boys!
