solid book, a little underwhelming but it got really good towards the end!
I’m doing a thing where I reread books that I loved in middle school/early high school and seeing if they hold up today. I remember picking this one up back when it was on Wattpad I think?
With this one, it’s definitely a cute, easy read. I really like how it showcases Jackie‘a grief process. The romance is light and fun, and perfect for a YA book. The book and the show are honestly so different (the show was so difficult to get through oops).
It’s not as amazing as I remember it being when I was 14 (I went into it fully expecting that) but it’s enjoyable. If you’re looking for a cute YA read, I would definitely go with this.

As my rating is purely based on my enjoyment while reading the book this book deserves 4 stars. I really didn't expect to enjoy it this much. It's just a very cringy straight romance (which i normally don't like) and I loved it.
Definitely team Cole btw

3.5 stars. Idk how to feel bc I did actually like this book, but the ending was kinda annoying and it doesn’t like the sequel is coming. I hated the “shes beautiful but doesn’t know it” cliche. This whole book had tons of cliches. But it was still really fun and I liked most of the characters so...idk. Without a sequel it feels so incomplete.
I liked this book. Even though it did take me a little while for me to finish it, it was enjoyable and fast paced. Loved the characters and especially the love triangle, which was probably my favorite part. I liked both of the love interests, but I definitely liked one more than the other

I decided to do a reread in anticipation for the Netflix adaptation.
I remember reading this novel back when it was popular on Wattpad when I was in high school, so I didn’t know how much of this novel I would remember but boy was I in for a surprise! First was the hyper sexualization the boys displayed towards girls, especially shown in Cole with the “I hook up with girls as a facade because I can’t emotionally process the disappointment of losing my football scholarship” and if that weren’t bad enough I forgot that this written by a teenage girl who probably had a hyper fixation for male abs which made me cringe every time it was mentioned when describing the boys, and it was mentioned a lot. The only likable character in this entire book was Nathan, he was the only character I was able to connect to. I also disliked that Jackie ignored both Cole’s and Alex’s red flags, they both showed they didn’t really care about her feelings towards them but getting back at each other out of spite in the name of their “rivalry.” Also the ending was rushed in an effort to give us some kind of happy ending between Jackie and Cole. I give this book 3 stars for the effort of the plot but having poor writing. I really hope they’ve done some changes to the script for the adaptation, I have high hopes after watching the trailer.
