This book was so fun to read! I sped through it in less than two days. The prose was easy to digest without being mindnumbingly bland, the characters and how they were introduced made them fun to read, and the drama of the story was interesting. I liked the two love interests and though I'm no fan of love triangles, I actually enjoyed how this one concluded.

That is all to say, there were some flaws about this book that bugged me. I never understood what people were talking about when they said love triangles just exist to shove the female love interest into a corner while the two male LIs fight over her, but I understood it here.

Cole and Alex spend the entire book fighting over her, using her to get back at each other through their petty rivalry. I still enjoyed the book, but this love triangle brought out the worst in both characters and kinda made me dislike them a bit.

Also, Jackie is bland as hell. She kind of (?) has a personality with her whole shtick about

being a perfectionist and trying to hide from the grief of her family's death,

but it wasn't done that well and wasn't focused on as much as it should have been. Because of this, the finale felt unearned and honestly like it was a bit out of left field. I think Jackie could've used a bit more fleshing out because her character had potential, but it felt like the few times the author feebly tried to expand on Jackie's characterization were weak and half-assed.

All in all, the book had its flaws, but it's a fun book to just turn your brain off and read as entertainment. I still thing the romance and all the character dynamics were cool, and I'm excited to try watching the Nerflix-adapted show now.

meh.

Typical YA...drama, drama, drama.
Would have been much better had the characters been given any real depth.
I mean Cole was supposedly gorgeous but that's all we really know, Jackie is in turmoil but we only know that because she tells us. Alex gives me the ick because I don't really get why he says or does any of the things he does. Most of the other boys are interchangeable - including the one girl.

It's probably a better show than a book.
