This is honestly probably a 3.5 star book BUT I bumped it up a half star because I’ve read it several times and it’s always better than I remember it!

3.75/5⭐️ This book was just what I needed after a pretty long slump. It’s fast-paced, easy to read, entertaining and fun. I loved it. I picked it up because when I saw the Netflix adaptation in January I really enjoyed it and, I think because I already felt attached to the characters from that I loved the book even more. The truth is, its really obvious throughout the reading experience that the author was really young and inexperienced when writing this: simple writing, unfinished plot lines, and wasted potential (in my opinion) but honestly, I wasn’t looking for prize winning fiction when I picked it up and it didn’t disappoint on what I wanted it to do for me: be entertaining. Lastly, I’m really excited for the sequel to come out and hopefully fill out all the blanks left in this first book, and I also really want to see how the writer approaches the story and improves her writing 10+ years later.

The way Cole is such a good character. One book isn’t enough for this many characters and for them all to have some sort of growth. If it was more spread out into more of a slow burn rather than a middle schooler trying to write a romance it would’ve been better

I enjoyed this book, but agree that the ending was a little cryptic. Needs a 2nd book to tie up all the loose ends.
