Best things about this book were the double crosses and inner conflicts- so many YA fantasy books seem to have that clear cut distinction between good vs evil, with the evil being a caricature of moustache twirling shenanigans. This went a little deeper though it tended to want to rush from one bit of action to the next with the in-between scenes being nothing more than filler with a little bit of exposition. The action set pieces are exactly that; huge, bombastic, cinematic. Like the characters need to level up for the next boss fight. It makes for tense reading at best, unrelenting action for the sake of it at worst.
Lots of steamy sexy tension for the teenage market it’s geared towards. Will they, won’t they, should they, would they? Betrayal and heartbreak and love triangles.

I think I was in a weird “not really into reading” mood while I was reading this because I loved all of it but whenever I had time to read I didn’t want to, haha. But honestly I think that was a weird me thing.

This books was magic. Incredible writing, a cool magic system, TWO kick-ass female main characters. I just loved it!
