Thoroughly enjoyed this fated mates, enemies to lovers, high fae meets great Gatsby tale. Addie is this simple girl from Georgia who grew up being told the things she saw were devil folks and that she was a devil child. Her family surrounded her and taught her superstitions to keep her safe. But eventually the Fae will find her. Not only Does the Poison Prince Jack and his sister Violet have to un-brainwash her and teach her about the fae world they also NEED her to save human kind, and also Jack is hopelessly utterly in love with her. Who are the true good people, what is hidden in the dark, and how can Addie save the humankind.

I received an ALC of this book, as the audiobook was only just released, but Prince of Prohibition is also on KU. Prohibition era fae fantasy romance, I liked a lot of the components from the vibrant worldbuilding to the characters to the fantasy and magic + faerie history. That said, it was LONG.

So Iโve had this book sitting on my KU shelf since I first heard about it (I mean, fae plus the 20โs sounds right up my alley) so when I saw that the audiobook was available for request on @netgalley, I jumped at the chance, and Iโm so happy I finally got to listen to/read it!
Set in 1926: Addie is a sheltered, innocent, 20 year old Georgian girl who sees creatures who *arenโt there*, and happens to dream of the devil every month...One day her brother decides to uproot the two of them and move to NYC, and there Addie meets Jack, the infamous gangster/bootlegger, who just so happens to be her devil dream manโฆ
First of all, shout out to Violet Warren, my favorite no-nonsense, tell it like it is side character. Every time she was around was my favorite part. I just love a super bitchy character! ๐
I also really liked the growth Addie went through during this book, from the extremely sheltered, prim girl we first meet, to who we see at the end. It was fun to go on that journey with her.
And Jack? So good. Loved him, especially on his date(s)! ๐ฅฐ
The best parts of the story were definitely the beginning and the end. I felt sometimes the story got bogged down in the middle when dealing with the fae lore, but it was all worth it for that ending. And speaking of the ending. Holy cliffhanger! Iโm ready for book 2 now, please!
Audiobook notes: As soon as I started it up, that southern drawl was begging me to speed it up, so I did, to faster than Iโve ever sped up an audiobook before. ๐คฃ But overall, the narration was decent.
Thank you to @dreamscape_media and @netgalley for providing me an ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review of "The Prince of Prohibition" by Marilyn Marks
*Disclaimer: I received this audiobook as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*
Alright, let's dive into "The Prince of Prohibition." It's a tale that sits in the realm of 'just okay' for me. While it didn't sweep me off my feet, it also didnโt leave me utterly disappointed. My biggest gripe was its evident struggle to carve out its unique identity. It felt like it was attempting to emulate the vibe of ACOTAR, but it missed the mark, especially in the audio format. There's something oddly disconcerting about characters breaking into song in an audiobook, especially when you're trying to zip through the narrative.
The story found its footing in the latter half, picking up speed and surprising me with a decently crafted ending. That ending, I have to admit, planted a seed of curiosity for the next book. However, Iโd seriously contemplate switching to a physical or digital copy for the sequel. The audiobook experience didnโt quite deliver the depth I craved.
There was a sluggish segment that tested my patience, making me wonder if I should stick around. Yet, the compelling finale managed to salvage the experience, leaving me intrigued about what comes next.
If you're in the market for a light romance read, "The Prince of Prohibition" might fit the bill. Itโs got its moments, but it's not a knockout. My recommendation? Consider the print or digital version to truly immerse yourself in the story. While it didnโt entirely win me over, Iโm cautiously curious about the next instalment. I would rate the audio version a three star, but my hope for one day reading this in physical format make me give it four stars.

Overall, this book is amazing. Did it get slow or drag out in the middle? Yes, but once you get past the middle, it's a roller coaster of events. I'm really excited to read the next book. There is an obvious parallel between the Knights of Templar and religious zealots in modern day times. It made the book more relatable to see those parallels because you could imagine this magical world more clearly. The historical accuracy was there but wasn't necessary when most of the story took place within the Fae "world" but when we did see them in the world of humans the descriptions of each place and atmosphere was done very well. I definitely went back and forth between trusting the Fae and not. Jack played a great morally grey MMC. There is no clear Good vs. Evil in this story... everyone has done something for survival purposes or what they considered "for the greater good." But obviously, we're rooting for the morally grey hero and especially Addie coming into her own strength. She does have character growth, and in the end, she's not shying away from doing what she needs to do to survive.
I listened to the audiobook while reading the ebook in tandem. Whenever there are words that I can't pronounce, I really enjoy hearing the narrator pronounce it for me. A lot of Welsh and Irish words throughout the book but hearing Jack call Addie "annwyl" was the best ๐๐ฝ Their relationship had me on tenterhooks from the beginning. The slow burn was soooo worth it, though.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I read the book in tandem via Kindle Unlimited.

every month, adeline has visions of a dark prince and a shadowed forest. this vision becomes tangent when she moves to new york and meets jack warren. though she knows she should listen to her familyโs warnings, she just canโt seem to stay away from him.
what drew me to this book is that it was described as โacotar meets the great gatsby.โ although i donโt care for acotar, i interpreted this to mean a fantasy romance, and i love the great gatsby, so this seemed right up my alley! i adored all these elements within the book. i loved the romance between adeline and jack and canโt wait to see where their story goes in book two!

Beautifully written, loved the Appalachian setting and imagery at the beginning pacing and plot were well done.
My only complaint was I wish we'd get to know Jack more but that's it.
Can't wait for the second book.

This was an incredible read! While the first few chapters were a little slow due to the world building, I was absolutely hooked after a couple chapters! Marks introduces a beautiful and vivid world of the Fae living in 1920โs New York. (Think ACOTAR + Great Gatsby + Peaky Blinders
