DID I MISS SOMETHING?
BLOG || INSTAGRAM
I’m sitting here looking at all of these wonderful reviews for this book wondering if I have somehow picked up the wrong because this ain’t it. And I gave it 300 pages before I really hit a wall and skimmed my way to the end. It was trying to be a lot of books I’ve already read + the addition of 200 pages that weren’t necessary.
There was a lot of time spent doing nothing. Addie would be a stick in the mud about every little thing & Jack would sometimes try to help the situation. Too much time spent on the nuances of trying to get Addie to figure out her magic and plenty of running around trying to find all of the artifacts needed to turn Addie immortal.
The mate trope here also rubbed be the wrong way. It started off AWKARD. And then took a long time before I finally started coming around to them. I did like Jack and the his merry group of banished fae. They were all dandy. I think there was plenty here that would work for many people, I am just not that person.
Overall audience notes:
- Historical fantasy romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: open door + innuendo
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: physical and magical altercations, loss of a parent, near death experiences, alcohol use

I received this book as a ARC.
I was intrigued at the very premise of the book, as I have never seen anything that blended the roaring 20's and fantasy before. I was also unsure about whether I would like the historical fiction aspect of the book, but I loved it! I found the characters to be charming, especially Addie with her southern drawl. The found family trope of present and it is always a hit for me in fantasy novels.
Moving to more of the fantasy aspects of the book, fated mates. I absolutely adored the way Marilyn Marks kept true to her word that the parallel bond was rare. The characters did not know much about the parallel bond and it definitely showed. I've seen many fantasy books enact the rare fated mates, but in actuality it doesn't end up being that rare with many of the characters falling into relationships with their fated mate.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this story and am so excited for the second book!

“The flowers, the earth, the darkness, the woods. They’re all yours if you want them. One day, you may even command me.”
I want to start off by saying HAPPY PUB DAY!! And thank you to @marilynmarksauthor for allowing me to be an ARC reader 🤍
I absolutely adored this book. It is a dark fantasy romance book set in the roaring 1920s. Adeline Colton is cursed and try’s to escape with her brother to New York City. There, she runs in with the infamous gangster Jack Warren. Jack becomes obsessed with Adeline and she find herself unable to resist him.
This book is a story about fae, fated mates, enemies to lovers, found family, and ganster rivals.
I really loved this book. The writing style made me feel like I was in the ‘20s. As the MC learns more about the people she calls “devil folk”, the writing style develops and seems to come out of that old timey dialect. So it seems to evolve with the MC, which I didn’t like at first but after thinking about it, I feel like that was a clever way to write this story. You can sense the ignorance leaving the character.
I loved the romance and the action. I appreciated that this book wasn’t pure smut. There was a really good plot to it. It really gave off an ACOTAR vibe. I could see parallels between this book and the ACOTAR series. If you’re and SJM fan, read this book!!!
The side characters were reminiscent of the Inner Circle of the night court. I loved Lillian’s character. She’s be perfect in a reverse grumpy sunshine book. She had a great personality and snarky attitude. She’s my favorite by far!
This book is now available for purchase on Amazon. It is also available on KU!! It was just a good fantasy adventure set in the real world! Amazing concept that was well done. 10/10

This book slapped. I'm sorry if I am a chaotic mess because this book exceeded my expectations!! I AM SATIATED.
This book is described as “ACOTAR meets the Great Gatsby” and it DELIVERED.
For starters, I’m a sucker for Celtic Mythology so a lot of the references in this book made me giddy! I’m a sucker for a historical fiction book as well, so combining the roaring twenties with Fae and romance was so intriguing to me that I had to find out how it would be pulled off. The book was fast-paced and the writing was great. The characters were terrific as well and had all the great elements of a discombobulated found family. The way Marks was able to weave history into the fantasy with adventure and intrigue and twists and turns and ROMANCE was delicious. Jack is THE new book bf and really filled the gaping hole Rhysand has been living in. Boy am I a puddle for an overbearing Fae brute. Then add 1920s charisma and fashion…🥵🥵
Just under five stars, as I feel some things could have been fleshed out a little more and the pacing started to drag around the midway point. There was also a lot of modernity mixed in, despite it being the 1920s, particularly some of the language/way of speaking. I also feel like I still have a lot of questions, but honestly, I think a lot of them will be revealed in later books. Speaking of which, I am now itching for book 2 because of that epilogue. Excuse me while I foam at the mouth from now until book 2 is in my grubby grasp.

I was so lucky to get an arc from the author and I really really really adored this book! If you want a book that has ACOMAF vibes but set in 1920s New York City, look no further.
The Prince of Prohibition follows Addie, a sheltered girl from Georgia, who’s always been told something is wrong with her because she can see “devil folk”. Her and her brother move to NYC after their father dies and she meets Jack Warner, the man she’s been seeing in her dreams for years.
I’ll be honest, it took me about halfway through to get fully into the book and be fully convinced of my feelings, but once I was hooked I WAS HOOKED! The found family in here is so sweet, especially between our three girlies, and the relationship between Addie and Jack really stole my heart. But something I truly loved was Addie’s character development. She is so openly flawed and it was so amazing to watch her go from the girl who was scared to look people in the eye to the independent person saving everyone. And that ending, THE ENDING!!!!! I have been DYING to find a book with this exact trope every since I read it in an anthology last year AND NOW I FINALLY HAVE IT AND WILL NEVER LET IT GO!! Fated mates really will always put me in a loving chokehold <3
I’m so interested to see where the next book goes and I’ll be waiting so very patiently for Marilyn to kindly give it to us. Thank you again for allowing me to read your book early!

I was sent an arc of The Prince of Prohibition in exchange for my honest review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions. You can find more on my blog. The review contains minor spoilers.
First and foremost, I was thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading The Prince of Prohibition. When I went into this, I thought I was just reading some fun little frivolous romantasy about the fae. Boy was I wrong. I think what surprised me most though, was how damn funny I found this book. I repeatedly laughed out loud.

I loved the characters Marks dreamt up. While our main character, Adeline, may not be my favorite lead character in a series, she’s not the worst either. Adeline has lived a very traumatic and sheltered life. I understood her, but I didn’t love her. I like my female characters strong and full of life. It’s not that Adeline isn’t well-written, she’s just not written for me. That being said, Adeline went through a lot of personal growth throughout The Prince of Prohibition, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it in the future.
The rest of the characters? Hot damn, loved them all to bits.
I want to be friends with Violet and Lillian.
The plot was delightful, and clever. Our dear glamour touched Adeline finds herself in the company of the Band of Banished and chaos ensues. Some of that chaos just so happens to be a heist. A heist that involves a dragon! A heist that involves a dragon, in the twenties. Maybe it’s a common occurrence, but it was a first for me and I liked it. I liked it a lot.
One of my favorite details was the Knights of Templar and I hope that we see more of that thread in book two. Again, this may be a common theme in period pieces about the fae. But it was a first for me, and I thought it was a clever detail.
As it turns out, the journey our characters were on, was not the end.
The bad guys were not the bad guys. Well, they were, but there was more to it. And I was there for it. I want to know more about Jack and Violet and how exactly we got to where we ended in the last chapter of The Prince of Prohibition. Marks seamlessly answered current questions, while opening the door to others. I’m interested in the history of our characters, not just their future.
