the romance in this book was lacking. i did not see how or why chloe and shara liked each other, at all.

RW&RB was mediocre for me, One Last Stop was good, but now I'm realizing that I read Casey McQuiston books not for the romances, but rather for all other reasons (like plot). I don't like politics, so obviously I didn't like RW&RB's plot. But Once Last Stop had sci-fi and mystery that captivated me more than the romance. As for this one, the mystery, the clues, and the game were super interesting. Even so, this was lacking. I think I would've been more interested if this book just went in a different direction than it had gone.

idk. the first half and last quarter of this book was okay, the middle i disliked.

This book mentions John Green, and yea when your book premise is a clone of Paper Towns, I get it. But i gotta say, i do like the execution of this one better.

also, everyone in this book is gay. like everyone. okay maybe like 90%.

reading this book felt a lot like that "how do you do my fellow kids" sprinkled with a lot of "it like it casey but can you shove some more pop culture references in there by any chance?" and a poor attempt at balancing a homophobic and yet queer environment.

it might be because it's YA but nothing this book does feels finished. the characters are all (inverted) tropes, the conclusion to the disappearance mystery was unsatisfying at best, and even the homophobia that was constantly talked about wasn't backed up except for like maybe twice.

casey mcquiston obviously knows what she's talking about, but her storytelling isn't strong enough to really do it justice. it might be the format, although i felt the same about one last stop so maybe it's just how i feel about her writing.

in conclusion, this book was easy to pick up, but also easy to put down. if you're looking for an easy feel good read, i feel confident recommending this one.

At first I was really iffy about this book. I had just finished paper towns a little bit ago and was not expecting this to be similar.

Thankfully I gave it a chance and it changed my life. Chloe is literally me. I love her so much. The end of this book made me so emotionally since I’m in my senior year and graduation feels so scary.

Also the cover is gorgeous.
