A very cute book that will remain a classic for years to come. One of my favorites from childhood and now.
Read this to my middle daughter over the summer. Of course I knew the storyline as I’d watched the 1973 movie over and over in the late 80’s.
I read the entire book (aloud) in the same voices I remember the narrator and characters having from the movie. It was probably really awkward for my daughter…wondering where I had come up with these rando voices on the fly as they obvi weren’t my usual go to’s.
The theme of friendship is a beautiful one. Giving your life’s work to someone else you love. Saving them. And then that person watching generation after generation after your lineage. Reminds me dearly of the small town circle of life!

This wasn’t as sad as I remembered. More bittersweet. We enjoyed the farm imagery and the sweet personalities of the animals. It was fun to do voices with the dialogue!
