A classic for a reason - a good way for kids to get to approach ideas of coming-of-age concepts.  A big discussion point with my kiddos was "which animals were kids" and "which animals were grown up" and how we can look at their actions and words to understand.  We talked about Wilber and Fern both growing up from the first page to the last page.

Passed me by as a child. It's a very good story with surprisingly mature themes and concepts. I love the way that the spider's web, even just a normal spider's web without words weaved into it, is described as a miraculous thing.

I don’t know why I waited so long to read Charlotte’s Web. Such a beautiful, poignant story. A piece of brightness in dark times.

I haven't read this in so long, it's such a good book.

Loved Charlotte's Web as a kid. I don't remember where I first saw it. The cartoon was lovely, and the book was a delight to read even as an adult. I did not realize E.B.White is also the co-author of "The Elements of Style", a fantastic must-have reference book for writing.

The main theme of Charlotte's web is friendship, to me. Friendship which leads to giving, kindness, random or consistent acts of joy and love. Even if Wilbur is self-focused, Charlotte can overlook that because at heart, Wilbur is pure, whereas Templeton the rat is not so pure, although he is not malicious either.

The words of Charlotte before her death will stay with me: "After all, what is life without friendship? We are born, we live a little and then we die." So very true. Friendship is what adds joy and meaning into our lives.

Charlotte's death is sad, and yet Wilbur has a way to give back by looking after Charlotte's 500+ children! Ha ha! That was cute. When Wilbur has a chance to do something in return for his friend, he takes it and he embraces it with his whole heart. Even in death, there are lessons, gratitude and later on, joy that reminds us of those whom we may have lost but never forgotten.

E.B. White is a delightful writer and you can't help but care about Wilbur and especially Charlotte. Never will you look at a spider the same way again!
