Tonight I finished reading Charlotte's Web to Leo. We got to the last paragraph, and he wanted me to stop. I didn't quite understand, so I finished the book, and then he wept because it was over. And I was choked up because of Charlotte. We were a mess.
''But this is different. A little girl is one thing, a little runty pig is another.' 'I see no difference,' replied Fern,(...)''
''Well,' said Mrs. Zuckerman, 'it seems to me you're a little off. It seems to me we have no ordinary spider .' 'Oh, no,'' said Zuckerman. 'It's the pig that's unusual. It says so, right there in the middle of the web.''
No plot, the writing is eye-rolling at most, the characters are flat. There are many spare characters and lines, the story was wearisome despite being hailed as 'heart-warming' and I disliked the overall moral of the story. I skimmed the book in disinterest when I realized there's nothing worthwhile for me, although I was hoping to add a book to the list of books I may read to my children.
This is definitely not a book I would read to any child, let alone mine.

I love when a book is timeless, and this most definitely fits the bill. I loved the writing. I loved the humor. This is great at any age.
P.S. the audiobook is read by E.B. White himself, and he too is great.

I always love reading Charlotte’s Web! This time around it was even more special as it was the first time reading it to my daughters. How wonderful to observe them sitting spellbound, eyes sparkling as the special spider friend spins her webs. And to hear the question over and over, “Is Wilber going to die?” It’s truly a tale of “some pig” and “some spider.”
My first read aloud chapter book with Elsa. (We finished Harry Potter 1-4 when she was just a baby.) Her favorite character was Charlotte.
