I love Eleanor Estes and her stories that take place in my mother's childhood in Connecticut!

Honestly I didn’t like this one quite as much as the first two books. This was likely more realistic since things don’t always end well at the end of the chapter like The Middle Moffet.  WWII really plays a large role In this one in various chapters, and the final chapter was quite moving—I think probably more impactful for the adults than children listeners…

This was a quick read, and a fun one. The Moffats are delightful, and Rufus is particularly entertaining in a Fudge/funny young boy version of the world sort of way. This book has some episodes that stretched on longer than needed, and I think the Newbery honor had as much to do with reading about World War I Armistice Day in 1943 as it did with the quality of this particular text.

TBH I only know about half of what happens in this book because I listened to it in audiobook form while driving back from Georgia with friends. If you're driving back from Georgia with your friends & need something to listen to, this does the trick

This may have been our favorite of the Moffat books. So many funny stories, but so much to discuss within the chapters. The Moffats are definitely growing up in this one.

My newly 7yr old son — who struggled to connect/follow the Moffats — enjoyed this volume much more. I suppose the themes are more timeless and relatable.
