Fantastic example of Afrofuturism. Pacing was sometimes odd because it is such a short sci-fi book, so a lot of world building needs to happen in a short time frame. I liked the main character a lot, and I would definitely be interested in the series. An interesting depiction of what multicultural looks like when our culture can include other species while maintaining the biases of our own.

This book was really too short for the subject matter. I wish there was more time and space to really go deep into all the new, fascinating things the reader is introduced to. I'll pick up the next one as I'm sure it will expand the universe, but I feel this little story really could have been more. It felt like base ideas that weren't fully explored or fleshed out yet.
