I’m all for mental health discussions/struggles in books but the author’s word choices surrounding her body issues made me v uncomfortable; I also feel like their backstories came out in big trauma dumps rather than naturally revealing.
The beginning called this book cozy and I definitely do not agree with that. I was stressing from beginning to end.

This is all sort of just thinly veiled allegory for the current american political climate…
I wasn’t gonna read the second one and I haven’t decided if I am, but the (very predictable) ending stressed me out so fuckin much I might need to

All I can say is what a cliffhanger! I need part 2 right now! In Part 1, Emilia Emerson gives her readers an in-depth explanation of the background of her characters including the trauma they went through to grow up who they are today. I was instantly hooked into this book once I learned about Josie and how she was put down by everyone including her own parents because of her weight and the way that she looked. I felt a connection to Josie because I have been in a similar situation as her with her weight and accepting herself for who she is. I was instantly in love with her chosen pack because of how deeply they cared for her and didn’t want to change her any way. In Part 1, Emilia allows her readers to watch the bond grow between Josie and her pack. I instantly loved the bond of this pack and my heart went out to them and hoped that everything would be okay. The spiciness was so cute and hot between the characters especially the after care following each scene! I was extremely anxious at the end of the book because I was upset and frustrated along with the characters about the government and the situation they are facing. I am awaiting part 2 and I hope that Josie and her pack have their HEA!

Thank you Emilia Emerson for this ARC read!
