 I found the plot intriguing and the mystery engaging. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the writing style. I appreciate complex prose and even long, descriptive passages (I love Tolkien’s style!), but this felt messy and often confusing. I frequently struggled to follow the text, which made understanding the events more difficult. I often had to re-read paragraphs to make sense of them. 

Some events, particularly later in the story, felt implausible, added more for convenience than logic, just to drive the plot forward. 

While I usually enjoy short chapters, as they help me keep pace when reading before bed, these were excessively brief, sometimes only one or two pages. Many ended with abrupt cliff-hangers that were not resolved in the following chapter, which was frustrating. 

I do not quite understand the hype around this book. The core story was strong, and the mystery of the lost girls, along with the exploration of trauma, had real potential, but I feel it could have been handled much better.

What a book! The twists and turns, the beauty, the heartbreak, the storytelling! I will read this story again and again and probably take something else away from it each time.
