“I will never set you ‘free’!!!”

jun mochizuki always does the most beautiful explorations of female characters’ relationships to themselves, to all the versions of themselves they’ve been, and to all the different feelings and thoughts and selves they contain. domi’s arc this volume is so gorgeous and devastating and I love that
it doesn’t get wrapped up neatly, that is doesn’t end in a conclusion but rather the beginning of her truly looking at herself and working through who she’s been, who she is, and who she wants to be going forward. like, I love that she didn’t start loving herself immediately. I like that this was not a mini closed arc of “oh I love myself” but rather a step from “I hate myself and no one wants me” to “I hate myself but I have to realize here that at least one person does love me, so I need to live for him.” it feels really genuine to have such a huge moment for smth that’s just the beginning of a larger journey to caring for herself and I can’t wait to see where her story goes!!
god the reveal that
it wasn’t louis in her head but the version of herself who tried to become him….
I will never be well again I fear lol I want to write an entire essay about just that

and
jeanne having the same revelation about domi that domi had about her
🥹🩷
I love these two bisexual women and their balance of protecting each other vs knowing when to step back and acknowledge how capable the other one is

also noé and vanitas are devastating in the best way this volume I love them sm <3

BRUH
sometimes at the end of the day it really is just a girl and the VaniNoé angst of volume 10
VaniNoé carried (as they should!!). Maybe I felt the multiple panels from past volumes when someone was referencing the past got a bit overused but also who cares it makes sense. Noé going off with the "and the way you dismissed all of that...all of it!...as if it never happened" and the background panels are him and Vanitas "I'm glad the person I met was you" "I believe you" etc etc laughing together having each other's backs leaning on each other i-😭
In the Case Study of Vanitas fandom we don't say "I won't leave you" we say "I will never...set you 'free'!" and it gets a full page spread. To follow that
the entire scene of Vanitas's breakdown ate so bad like the knife on Noé's throat and he wasn't movin' and Vanitas's freakin tearstained face and his collapse because he can't kill Noé ofc he can't hypnosis or not, and Noé's expression after, the "I'm sorry Vanitas"
peak writing/illustrating truly 😤🥵😩
As if I wasn't fed enough, she brought dessert to the table-Noé and Vanitas aftermath roof scene (remember these hoes are roommates 👀 throughout all this) the initial eye contact?? 😭😭 The full page spread of
"If I'm going to be killed...I want Noé to do it"
Where do I even start with that girl-But truly it was the sitting back to back scene that was the crown jewel, it was putting Noé first "but right now...I want to talk to you") and "I gave up...on making you do what I wanted" and basically saying they'll stick together after this and Noé's look of contentment...they said "i love you" 23 times in this scene alone without using those words and Noé offering Vanitas a hand to get up they said i love you again with their eyes but you know a bitch was sweating because the panel of Vanitas reaching out to grab Noé's hand but the fact that we didn't get them making contact felt like foreshadowing I'm telling you im scared
Vanitas making tarte tartan for Noé 🛐 THEM>>>
Dominique girlbossed, she slayed, she ate. Her backstory, her thoughts, her and Noé's relationship (what is that?) so well written really fleshed out her character
Hoping for more Mikhail/Vanitas reconciliation (perhaps) like he obivously loved him to death but
I felt like he treated him a bit lukewarmly like did you really give up on him that quick? After the way he reacted hearing "how is No. 71?"
