A real life Bridget Jones, Dolly Alderton shares her heart and soul (and the shadows between them) in an astoundingly honest and relatable way.
I felt so understood by this memoir and found myself laughing and crying throughout. Her depiction of female friendship is so accurate and I can’t help but hate her (in a jealous, admiring way) for having so much of it.
Her language is candid and easy going. As a novel where so many stories are set in bars having conversations with strangers or friends, so too do you feel like you’re sitting at the bar having Dolly share her life story with you. At least for me, it felt like a two way conversation with lots of nods, “mhms,” and reminiscing on my own life experiences.
I highly recommend this to all 20 something year old women — especially to the single ones.

Of all the books I've read this year, this was the most well written. Dolly's story isn't unique (not to say her life isn't interesting) but that's what makes this book so great. So many millennial women can relate to what she has to say. And sometimes the most empowering and affirming thing is to know that other people, other women, are going through, will go through, and have gone through what you're experiencing. And in a time when you're questioning a lot about your life and it's purpose (beyond ordering things off Amazon), it's relieving to realize you're not alone. I loved this book. It's what I needed, and I'm recommending it to all my friends immediately.

I didn't hate it. some of the topics touched on were relatable and important to me but they were explored on such a surface level that it didn't bring me any particular enjoyment or insight. the writing style was too forced and stacked with bad metaphors. this is a book written from the worst of white feminist perspectives, privileged, naive and boring while aiming to offer somewhat political takes lol

Protagonist too naive, also not a fan of non explicitly stated TWs (drugs,l and alcohol abuse). A book about pretty privilege, def not my cup of tea.

Nostalgia trip of the early 2000s was fun and then all the drinking and drugs was tiring and repetitive. Many stories may have been fun at the time for the people that were there, it just didn't translate that way onto the page. Didn't find her privilege relatable.  Worst of all, she writes as if she's self aware without actually developing any self awareness.
