This book reminds me of a fanfiction that I would’ve read in middle school, but in the best way possible. The simple language and the romance is what reminds me of it, but this is such a sweet story. The bad-boy comments made me cringe, but the sweetness of the rest of the book outweighs it.

This is a YA book, but I—a 24 year old woman—enjoyed this thoroughly and cried a good amount.

And the epilogue… oh man. Didn’t quite expect that, though it isn’t unpredictable. Good stuff.

Why is it that in every YA book that gets popular one of the MC
dies?
I expected to be sad. I didn’t expect for these teenagers to be depressed and serious about everything for the ENTIRE BOOK. There is no levity to balance out the morosity anywhere in the entire 13 hours of audiobook. Teenagers still laugh and joke through the pain, in fact I’d argue they mostly use humor to cope! There was no realism in this book whatsoever. Of course poppy would be a good enough cellist to play in Carnegie hall. Of course rune would be a good enough amateur photographer to get into NYU tisch. 

Wtf was with the epilogue?? Rune
lives about another ten years after poppy dies and then dies suddenly and we find out he never moved on or even kissed another girl bc he promised poppy?? He wakes up in their version of heaven and is only thinking of seeing her again, not of the family and friends he left behind. HUH
This book has so much religious imagery in it. Lots of talk about heaven and everything happening for a reason. 

Poppy’s narrator was pretty good, but rune’s narrator mostly yelled at me during his chapters. 

Lastly, why did they choose the
cancer notorious for its very good survival rate? Why not pick a more deadly cancer if she was going to die young anyway?


I had a hunch I should’ve DNFed at 20% and 50% and I was right.

This was a pretty emotional and I had bawled my eyes out a few times, but the ending kind of ruined the whole thing for me.

Ik vond het een mooi boek. Het begin was meteen al erg heftig. Ze kreeg de taak van haar oma 1000 boy kisses te verzamelen. Het midden van het boek vond ik een beetje saai maar, dat veranderde al snel toen ze opeens vertelde dat ze ziek was. Poppy en Rune deden er samen alles aan om haar laatste wensen te vervullen: de perfecte zonsopgang kijken, dansen bij prom (met rune), the blossom grove nog 1 keer in bloei zien en de pot met a thousand boy kisses compleet te maken. Ik laatste vond ik erg zielig en mooi tegelijk. Rune kon nu voor altijd bij Poppy blijven. Ik vind het bijzonder dat ik niet heb moeten huilen maar, ik heb wel met tranen in me ogen gelezen.
