I think it’s the best out of this series BUT I haven’t read the last 1 yet but this 1 kept me thinking lol
I knew Damon’s book was going to be one of my favorites.
Give me the most morally grey villain w/ DARK DARK DARRRRKKK past and I will make them my fav character 9/10 times.
Damon mf Torrance, the man that you are !!!
The way he cherishes, protects, and loves is

First of all, I hate everyone but Emory Scott.
Second of all,
Will -Stupid Bitch Ass White Privileged Coward Whore Ass Loser Dumbo Whiny Entitled Arrogant Abusive Hypocritical Self-Righteous Ass- Grayson, you'll never be good enough for Emory Sophia Scott and I'm glad you knew it, you internalised that shit, and they became the long-list of insecurities that plagued your teen years and your twenties ☺️🫶
Will BitchAss Grayson, they can never make me like you ☺️🫶 I have no empathy and patience for shitty abusive delusional MMCs, especially when this fandom hate Emory for something that Will did so much worse for. And a lot of them still love Damon -Gooner Pedophilic Sex-Crazed Groomer Rapist Stupid Ass Misogynistic Racist Entitled Pathetic Whiny Whore Ass- Torrance? Damon RapistAss Torrance, may you rot in hell always 🙏🫶
A lot of you (female) romance readers are a bunch of misogynistic hypocritical male-enabler male-gazed attention seeking pieces of craps (like every other FMCs in this series except for Emory), you'd rather hate and dislike FMCs like Emory or women irl, than holding MMCs like Will and Damon, as well as the men irl you find attractive, accountable for their shit. I'm never trusting your women-hating book recs and opinions on FMCs ever again.
Funny, Will StupidAss Grayson would still chose Emory over y'all because she is his standard (she's a stunner!) and ironically, a part of his many standards that she set for him was her treating the women in these books good. She was also the only woman in the series that I trust with daughters and nieces, and thank goodness she was, because the rest was incompetent and nasty as fuck. She was the only girl in the series who wasn't a bitch to other women or female characters for no reason, even to cheerleaders who always get bad reps everywhere in high school romances, including this one. Even her beef with Alex -the Sex Addict, Homewrecker, Male-Gazed-Attention-Seeking Dumbo, Criminals-Enabler, Fake, Selfish, Hypocritical Dumb Bitch, Elitist, Insecure, Women-Hating-Women- Palmer was justified.
I don’t understand how people have good opinions of Alex outside of Emory’s POV, since Alex always had a very shallow arc since Corrupt and her only three personality traits were being 1. A Sex Addict, 2. A victim of her own actions (a homewrecker & a SW), and 3. A competition against EVERY SINGLE WOMAN in this fucking series. She never existed as a solid female character outside of these three points, until Emory’s POV, not even in Rika’s, Banks’, or Winter’s, who had spent a lot of time with her until Nightfall. Maybe because they don't see her as human? Idk. Alex only became slightly likeable to me in Nightfall, only because of Emory’s POV, but that just goes to show and reflect how beautiful Emory saw the world and its people, especially with the way she views women, even the ones she had negative or difficult feelings for, unlike Rika, Banks and Winter.
If you reread the whole series again, you’ll understand how shitty and uncaring Rika, Banks and Winter had been towards Alex, especially when they first met, which was a big contrast to how Emory treated Alex throughout their friendship, to the point where Alex herself was willing to take a bullet for Em. Alex didn’t fight Martin because she was selfless, no, it was because Emory was the first FMC in this series that showed everyone, even Will, that she valued Alex’s life and friendship very much, despite Alex being bitchy, shallow and difficult to her (similar to what Kai explained to Banks in Hideaway about why he was fond of Rika, and it’s because she stayed friends with him even after everything), especially after constantly being pitted against each other by the shitty weak men in their lives. Emory said “none of you are taking this female friendship away from me, even after everything” and that was the reason why Alex would die for her. In the text, it was implied that Alex never planned to drop by in Blackchurch, that was Michael’s job-even her coming after Will was not 100% for Will, it was for Aydin.
So no, Alex’s character was never selfless (obviously, she was literally a homewrecker) but she had usually acted in self interest, which was only acknowledged in Emory’s POV before their bigass wedding. Alex wasn’t selfless even when she “took care” of Will, because being around an enabling fwb benefitted her from confronting her ugly past self, her selfish desires against her ex-college roommate, and the fact that her being a SW was to get back at Aydin (a richer life, hotter hookups, to prove to Aydin she didn't need him), but not because she was “just” going through a rough patch in life where she lost her scholarship. Even though Emory was also stubborn and prideful, she literally left Will mostly because of her grandma and her own safety, and her financial independence from men. Alex just wanted Aydin to admit he likes her and not her ex-roommate, to fight for her even though he was somebody else’s man.
You can instead pity Jordan from Birthday Girl when she was “offered” to be a SW by Cam and the club owner, because unlike Alex, Jordan genuinely only had herself to hang onto, her family was fucked up and they all lived in a trailer, but not Alex from Devil’s Night series. Alex was hinted to have a comfortable life, then lose that. Just because the people in this series kept on gassing her up, doesn't mean they truly know her. Rika had to do a background check on Alex in Conclave, because she didn’t know her past. That's why Emory's words in the train embarrassed Alex because Emory and Alex's situations weren't comparable by the slightest, one went through systemic oppression being a minority in a rich White Christian neighbourhood as a working class orphaned Jewish teenager, and another was just a normal gal in New York, who had resentment just because he wasn’t part of the uber rich class of the US! Yet in the train, Alex tried to get the upper hand of that situation and slander Emory, even though they're friends! Ew, ick! Again, it wasn't that Alex was good, you just think she's good because 1. she lied a lot, 2. The characters around her were worse, and 3. Emory was just good to women, so Emory's view of the world and people, including Alex, paints Alex as a hero even though she's not. Just like how Emory had difficulties killing Martin and acknowledging that Will hurt her too. It wasn’t because Martin was redeemable or Will was great (Will himself admitted he was not) but because Emory was good. Her goodness was not talked enough because unlike the rest, she doesn’t count how many good things she does and shove them into other people’s faces.
In reality, Alex fucked up her college scholarship, became entitled and vengeful of Aydin and after everything, she said in Conclave that she still wanted Aydin to look at her in order for her to feel beautiful, which was something Rika can relate to about her feelings for Michael. Rika herself was kinda bitchy to Chloe and acting entitled to Michael just because Chloe slept with Michael and Kai even though Rika wasn't his gf. All that happened while Rika was still in a relationship with Trevor. So Rika's POV is biased, she's an unreliable narrator. This girl was literally manipulated many times especially by the MMC’s father and brother, I wouldn't trust her judgement about anyone or anything tbh. Every FMC in this book was manipulated, abused and groomed. Anyway, Alex later on developed (?) sex addiction due to her own pride and karma. By the time the train in Nightfall scene happened, she became shallower, dumber, more desperate, erratic, prideful, and selfish to prove her point about not needing Aydin, hence Emory’s question on the train was necessary for us to understand Alex’s character: what did she win against Aydin or others by doing all that? Alex was still miserable as fuck, that’s why she became BFF, because understood her indulgence in substance to forget pain. They are mirrors, not soulmates. Alex and Will wouldn’t become BFF if Alex was sober and not an addict or vengeful. Some of you guys really don’t have the literacy skills to understand any of that, huh. Anybody who questioned why people don’t like Alex’s character or how she was written outside of the readers’ own jealousy towards Alex & Will’s relationship are just dumb tbh. Because Alex was never all that. And if she was all that, why didn’t Will chose her? Why didn’t she chose Will? Because both of them were embarrass of their past. That same whoreass Will that you love so much? If he was a good man, he wouldn’t make her his fwb, no? No wonder Alex crashed out, in her eyes she thought they were all gonna choose Emory. Still, not Emory’s fault.
Side note, why would Rika, Banks and Winter care about Alex being a homewrecker or the fact that Alex kept on shitting on Emmy to elevate herself (on the train scene) in front of everyone? That ugly ass behaviour was literally Rika’s, Banks’, and Winter’s norms and homelives. Look at the way their dads, moms, caretakers, friends and even themselves, handled women in this series? Goddamn awful! Almost every woman in their world is written like they’re shitty as fuck, cheaters, homewreckers, misogynistic losers, and rapist enablers etc. Well, it’s kinda true, but why was there a double standard to how Emory should act when you don’t apply the same standards to everyone else? Because you’re a hypocrite too. Funnily enough, you’re all probably one yourselves, just like them, LOL. Look at the way these three FMCs shitted on Michael, Kai and Damon’s exes or hookups, as if they’re any different, LMFAO! They’re all their stalkers and groupies, even Winter wanted to fuck Damon, she just didn’t wanna deal with the consequences of playing with somebody like him! She was horny as fuck, and a big ass liar. But according to Winter, Arion was “easy” and “won’t fight” EWWWWWWWW HYPOCRITE ASS SLUT-SHAMER 🫵 Out of the three though, only Rika and even Banks showed remorse to their past actions towards how they treated women hence why we got to see their growth, but Winter really was just fucking plain, boring, hypocritical, shallow, judgmental, and dumb- even until Fire Night, we never saw her change. There was not much progress to her character. Her character was convenient.
Other than that, why do you still wonder why these three thought Alex was “great” even when she was not? Because 1. She took care of them while they never did the same for her (even Will acknowledged that in Nightfall), and 2. their standards of what constitutes “a good woman” are low as fuck, the standards are buried underground, especially for Winter. Funny how she was the most judgmental, whiniest, and weakest among those three, always acting self-righteous against other girls, judging and slut-shaming Arion, when Damon was literally the male version of Arion Ashby ☠️ I had to laugh when Damon looked down on Ari in Nightfall, calling her an empty can of Pringles, like bro was not the exact same species as her. It's especially funny to read in Emory’s POV, because I know she looked down on both for similar reasons, LMFAO! If you wanna call one a whore, might as well call the other the same. #Equality Dumbbitch Torrance was just a different flavour of Pringles, he was probably cheddar garlic onion, because I knew his breath was stinky-moldy as fuck when he ate that corndog in Kill Switch and never brushed his teeth after all that food and smoking 😂
Winter’s character was dumb, weak, helpless and stupid as hell, and no, it was never because she was blind or disabled. When Will called her “plain, boring, pure” (also EWWW for the purity fetish 🤮) in Kill Switch, I felt that, and that was his only serve in this series. Her character existed only to serve as Damon’s love interest, my question to you all who love her, what was Winter’s personality like outside of what Damon and she herself had told us? Since both were unreliable narrators, Which of what they said was understandable and believeable since they’re both such complusive liars? I bet you can’t describe her much, and let me give you a hint: it’s because she was written like a self-insert-no-personality-white-blonde original character (OC) FMC, whose her body, her skin colour, and her ballet career were her only personality traits, to heavy-handedly serve the fantasy for a certain group of female readers. No inclusivity whatsoever. If you’re a BIPOC, can you truly relate to her since her main characterisation were “pure like snow” or “beautifully Blonde”? LMFAO, I guess not! Time to wake up, eh? Even if you wanna say she’s resilient, why not put that value on Emory? What about kind, Rika’s pretty kind. Funny? Alex took that spot. Loyal? Hell no, that was Banks! So what was Winter’s personality that has nothing to do with the other girls? Nothing!
A character is not immediately strong just because her love interest said so. Damon saying she was a fighter doesn’t mean shit when he had no basis to what a “fighter” woman was. What would he know about strong women, since apart from Emory, every woman in his world conceed to him easily, was shitty and weak as fuck? Emory was the only FMC that was strong and a fighter- mentally, emotionally and physically -and her existence was beyond Damon’s standard, and that puny little guy was pissed off that she didn’t respect him LMFAO! Had to even pit Will against Emory in a lot of those flashbacks instead of telling him to do better for his woman. Like a crab crawling out of a bucket, it wasn’t just because he was possessive friend it was also because he was a big fucking BUM. Like what Kai said in Fire Night, Damon really is such a fucking loser! Damon calling Rika half dumb and half smart in Kill Switch, just because she played chess and out-witted him? Queen? Damon Torrance gave me Miles Bron energy from Glass Onion 🥲 They’re both are so fucking stupid, ohmyfuckinggod. I don’t trust his judgment in anything that makes a “great” woman, because he’s dumb as hell, got no standards, and his braincells don’t clock to work.
Notice how all the FMCs that “fit in” with Will’s friends, especially Damon, are women who shit on other women to gain male attention, especially the MMCs? Yeah, Emory’s not missing out much, they’re like flies attracted to trash. Some of y'all can't ever relate to Emory because she wasn't a male-pleasing FMC who hates women for no reason and stood up to shitty White privileged MMCs like Will, and you also will be never ready for those ugly ass conversations about Alex, Rika, Banks & Winter's inherent misogyny and bias against women throughout the series. You can’t admit that because a lot of you project yourself onto them, and won’t admit that you had the same biases, and even if you do, in those random fucked up fantasies of you justifying yourself “this just fiction duh it’s not that deep, it’s not political 🤪🙄”, as long as you feel like you will still be loved anyway by these shitty abusive MMCs, nothing else matters. Good luck unpacking your stinky shit!

Winter and Damon
Damon's redemption arc and man what a ride this one was. First, Winter and Damon CANNOT catch a freaking break. Literally, every time something STARTS to go well, all the shit hits the fan. Penelope Douglas just went to TOWN on making such a devastating past for Damon. I know a lot of people hated him from book 1, but he was the only interesting character for me. I REALLY looked forward to his book and it did not disappoint. I think the only drawback was that it was a TAD too long. The fatigue was REAL by the end. However, the ending was really sweet and I really loved getting the full picture of Winter and Damon's story.

This book is the best in the series so far.
I was so unsure about it, and was not as interested in it at first. I rewound and listened to chapter 9 twice, (iykyk). Then I was like “something is happening in Damon I need to know about.”
I recommend this because he’s such a complex character.
This book is the best in the series so far.

I recommend this because he’s such a complex character.
