I like the way the author is taking the Artemis character. Not the evil boy he was in the first book but growing up. Good book and fun read.

I’ve been trying to work my way through Artemis Fowl, because it’s been years since I read this series and it’s the one that got me into reading when I was a kid. And I’m realizing now upon finishing this book that I don’t think I got to this book when I was younger, because I remembered nothing about it. But that was nice, because it’s adding another element to this series that has always had a special place for me. It may be for a younger crowd, but it’s so incredibly entertaining.

The Lost Colony might be one of my favorite Artemis Fowl books so far, even though I really like anti-hero Artemis from the first couple. He’s still brilliant, and he’s still the somewhat evil mastermind that we’ve come to love over the course of the series, but other characters like Holly Short have become good influences on him. I really liked Minerva as a foil and equal to Artemis, especially as he’s growing up and becoming more interested in girls. But what really got me was the ending, because it was just fantastic. There was time travel, paradoxes, and magic, three things that I really love. Without giving anything away, the ending was a perfect example for the classic Doctor Who quote in the fact that it was very “wibbly wobbly, timey wimey”. I can’t wait to continue this fantastic series.

Second time around and I'm seriously enjoying the crap out of this series. Maybe it's Butler's sass or Holly and Artemis working so well together. Or Maybe it's Artemis becoming more human and acting like a teenager a bit? Who knows. Just know that I'm enjoying this whole entire thing.

Artemis is going through something he can't control: Puberty. It's honestly hilarious to watch him in this book because he's all about being in control. So since he's getting older and his body is changing he really wants to be in control still. Or needs to be. Yet, Butler clearly states if he can be in charge of his hormones he would be the first.

I especially loved Artemis and Minerva interacting with one another because they are both geniuses. Then there's Butler who I feel more tuned with because he always sounds so confused when Artemis tries to explain things that he doesn't understand. Like, I am right there with you buddy.

In the end, I'm dying to see how he's going to react to being a big brother now.

Wow, it has been a while since my last Artemis Fowl book. I honestly thought I finished this series but I guess I haven't.

The Lost Colony was pretty interesting since it's been a while since I dove into this series. In it, we are still witnessing Artemis and Holly trying to save the world. Yet, at this point they are pretty down about not being super successful. Or successful at all.

It was a lot of fun diving back into this duo. I just love Artemis and Holly working together - they just make me smile. Besides them, we get to meet another lovely genius - Minerva! Now she was a delight and I definitely laughed when her and Artemis were together.

Now that I know that I haven't finished this series.. I am determined to that this month/year. Bring on the next adventure guys!

I think I preferred the other books leading up to this one, nevertheless, this was still enjoyable. The Lost Colony should NOT be the first book read in the Artemis Fowl books - the others will give you a better introduction to the cast of characters. This feels more action-oriented and seems to have less character development.

After the last book, you would think that the LEP would try to remove Artemis and Butler’s memories a second time. Or did they think that it might be too dangerous to let Artemis regress back to his criminal tendencies. Regardless of the reasons, it seemed like a loss that Holly wouldn’t be working as a LEP officer anymore. And, of course, that there wouldn’t be anymore of Julius Root. I really enjoyed him as Holly’s superior. But with him gone and Holly working as a PI, there ought to be some interesting ways that she and Artemis could interact with each other.

Unfortunately, the opening of The Lost Colony reverses the situation back to the norm. While Holly isn’t a recon officer but rather part of what might be considered the CIA of the fairy world. And she’s shot back up to the surface in order to deal with something new that might expose the fairy world and, of course, Artemis is involved.

Demons.

That is the 8th fairy family in Colfer’s mythology, which has been brought in as the titular lost colony. It’s an odd addition to the Artemis Fowl series. And one that seems a little forced. I honestly would have preferred to see what might happen with Holly and Artemis now while they were trying to adjust to their new lives. The addition of demons is interesting, though. But then I like that we’re only seeing their world from one outsider demon’s point of view. The humour that has characterised the series is still there, but there’s just something off about the book. It’s really too bad that Colfer didn’t choose to explore Holly and Artemis growing into new roles, but instead they put the two back into their comfortable, regular roles of policeman and criminal mastermind.
