Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
First book in the Outlander series. Claire a former British combat nurse is just back from the war and reunited with her husband in the Scottish Highlands when she walks through a standing stone. Suddenly she is in 1743 Scotland.

Okay, I was not expecting to love this one so much but I absolutely did. I devoured it! Now I had some idea of what it was about because I have watched two episodes of the show. Just two but we get a gist.

This was so much more. More detail more heartache, more trauma, more love, and more healing. Claire is so fierce. She doesn’t fit into this 1743 Scotland and she definitely doesn’t shy away from who she is. Oh gosh and Jamie. My heart. Their romance! I loved it. Perilous adventures, political intrigue, slow burn romance, and a tortured hero.

There were some parts of this that were tough and I am thankful a friend gave me a little heads up so I wasn’t completely caught off guard. I do think it made sense in the story and the plot but definitely could be a trigger for some.

Definitely think if you enjoy historical romances with a well-developed plot and characters, time-travel, and some serious adventures this is for you.

I think that in order to enjoy this book you really need to know what you're getting yourself into. Outlander is infamously rapey and not particularly forward thinking. If you can stomach that, you may enjoy it.

I once heard someone say that the books were worse than the show. I had to quit the show because of how violent it was. The book is a cake walk compared to the show. Maybe it's the different forms but written assault is much less triggering and takes much less joy in the violence than what is depicted on screen. Also? Written assault is a lot easier to skip over.

Outlander isn't art. It's historical fiction smut with broad strokes of bad research and even worse understandings of consent. But I still think it's fun and I still had a great time.

Dreamy. I’m obsessed. I love the historical fiction, adventure, and of course the romance.
