Beautifully written and devastating. So many complex themes are represented in just 200 pages. Telling this story through a child's perspective feels like the right choice.

I don't know what to think about this book. It was dark and hard to follow. I don't know if I appreciated the intent of this book. I also listened to the audio book so it was read by the author, which I think got across her point more. But the style of the book was extremely hard for me to follow. I had to regularly stop and check who was being talked about and honestly had to look up the plot so I could recentre myself in the story often. In the afterword, Morrison even says that the approach didn't work. The afterword made a lot of sense of the book in general honestly but I still would not read it again or recommend it.
