This was good. I had forgotten how it ended. Great re-read but so gross.

Memoir.
SPOILER!'!!! Please scroll past this if you didn't read the book.

That fucking letter that Caine wrote to Diana. My heart will forever be broken! Brianna you will be missed darling. Jack's death was the most comical towards how he noticed he was dying. I was heartbroken but I did chuckle. He sacrifices himself- poor weak and nonviolent, jack.
I miss Dehra, I miss Caine, I miss Brianna, and I also miss Gaia. It wasn't fair on how Diana didn't get the daughter she wanted from the boy she loved. Truly emotional book. God bless you Michael Grant

Well. I couldn't put this down. It was one of those, 'damn it, I'm going to get no sleep tonight' books because I had to finish it. With the "traditional" format of YA books these days being in trilogies, having to wait for 6 books to be published once a year is kind of akin to torture. And I didn't even start reading the series until book 2 came out. So yeah...I probably shouldn't have bought it at 10:30pm on a weekday but...I had to finish.

The last book for these long-suffering characters does not disappoint. Does it deserve 5 stars for being the most eloquent, most thought-provoking book? No. But as a solid ending to a series with many highs and lows and crazy plot turns and action-scenes? Yes. It kept me interested, it strung me along, it made me tear up a bit, and it made me extremely satisfied with where everyone ended up. Maybe not a completely 'realistic' ending
Spoileras many of our favorite FAYZ kids do survive some unthinkable odds - how many times can Sam be beaten to near-death?
but it's the ending that brought some great closure after a lot of effed up stuff happened to a bunch of teenagers.

I'm glad that people like
Spoiler Diana and Quinn and Orc got redemption through good deeds. I always felt Brianna was going to be one of the 'good guys' sacrificed in a blaze of glory, so her death was sad but not shocking. Caine got the best redemption he could, and I'm kind of glad that the 'epic' battle between Little Pete and Gaia wasn't drawn out. We didn't need to see a superhero battle. It was perfect the way it was.

As for Sam and Astrid,
Spoiler in the beginning when Grant was laying it on thick that they were in it together now, no matter what, I kept getting the horrible feeling he'd kill one of them off. It helped heighten the tension later on when Sam contemplated suicide to save everyone, but I'm so happy that it ended in the perfectly gooey way it did, with Sam emancipated and them living together. They can't really go back to being children anymore, and I'm glad that was respected by the end. And as cheesy as it was that Diana went to live with them, I loved that, too. This was one series I just didn't want to end with a big sacrifice / well, kids, this is the way the world works ending
.

I just read the finale to Lauren Oliver's Delirium series a few weeks ago and was disappointed. Listen up, [b:Requiem|9593913|Requiem (Delirium, #3)|Lauren Oliver|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1340992438s/9593913.jpg|14480925], THIS is how you properly end a series.

Here are the lyrics to "Brave Sir Robin" by Monty Python. They pretty much sum up the last few books in the hyper-violent "Gone" series.

"Bravely bold Sir Robin
Rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die,
Oh brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid
To be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.

He was not in the least bit scared
To be mashed into a pulp.
Or to have his eyes gouged out,
And his elbows broken.
To have his kneecaps split
And his body burned away,
And his limbs all hacked and mangled
Brave Sir Robin.

His head smashed in
And his heart cut out
And his liver removed
And his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped
And his bottom burnt off
And his pen--"
