I'm a huge fan of AZ's Boston Underworld series (read it multiple times) and so I'm always up for trying her new books. This one wasn't my favorite, I'll admit. It had all the makings of a gritty AZ book but there was just something that kept me from loving it.

The plot was interesting and I have to give credit to the author for the slow reveal of why Natalia was there and her motives. Although it began to become clearer to me way before the actual reveal it was still an interesting backstory. So, no I wasn't blown away or shocked but it worked well into the story itself.

Natalia herself was pretty plain tbh. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing stood out for me from her. She was an average woman living an average life when a handful of really fucking terrible things happen to her. She survives, fights to get back to a new normal but she also starts investigating. Now see for some reason this came across as a little dumb to me. Why? Because during her investigating and "looking into" certain people well those people helping her started ending up dead or missing. Logic says turn around and stop doing what you're doing, right? I thought so at least. So why she was surprised her best friend and her husband became collateral damage as well is funny to me.

Personally I didn't much like Natalia. She was unremarkable and though it takes an impressive amount of will and mental strength to come back from what happened to her I was still unimpressed. For someone who had an endgame goal when she became Alessio's nanny she sure didn't seem to have the intelligence to think logically and without thinking emotionally. Her thinking with her emotions is what made her weak and got her caught everytime. She was rather naive and inexperienced in the grand scheme of things so knowing what her endgame goal was tbh was laughably unbelievable once we got to where she executes it out of desperation. She was just terrible.

Alessio was actually a decent hero, or antihero I guess you could say. He also didn't impress me too much if I'm honest. He was far more interesting than Natalia though. He also had been through terrible shit in his life and let it guide and dictate his entire life. He was closed off and unemotional... until Natalia shows up. Cue eye roll

I always love when I find out Ms. Zavarelli is releasing something new.
For me her books are like a fine wine or decadent chocolate.
I try to savor the words and enjoy every minute I delve deeper into the story.
While at the same time I want to devour and read as fast as possible so I can turn the page and see what will happen next.
And this was exactly the experience I had with Kingdom Fall.
What an incredible story this was.
From the very first sentence I was captivated.
And I stayed that way till the very end.
I loved how the author grabbed me attention and had my mind a mess of who, what and how of the things that were going on.
And my heart went out to Alessio and Natalia even before I knew their full story.
They are both strong and resilient.
Both have overcome obstacles that are life altering with an inner strength that left me in awe.
Yet their vulnerabilities also shows in certain actions and in their eyes.
Alessio stole and broke my heart at the same time.
I adorned him with Nino and how he was trying so hard with him.
Alessio is always so sure of himself and so confident in his abilities.
His persona radiants of his position and his power.
But when it came to Nino he was unsure and awkward.
So I loved seeing the different sides of this unique complex man.
Natalia is exceptionally!
The hardships, the pain, the suffering she has gone through had the tears streaming from my eyes.
My heart and soul broke for her.
But in true Zavarelli style our heroine is no weakling.
She overcomes, she perseveres and she goes on.
Natalia becomes stronger, more determined and will not stop until her plans come to fruition.
Alessio and Natalia are exceptional and as a couple they are dynamic and a force to be reckoned with.
But secrets, lies and betrayal are always there and following them at every step.
Be prepared for an emotionally charged story.
Filled with suspense, drama and mystery.
A powerful connection of unwanted lust and passion between Natalia and Alessio but one that can’t be denied.

What i liked:
- Representation of a mute fmc and i think it was really great done
- the tension in the beginning between the two mc‘s
- Nino and how the fmc treated him. This was such a great emotional support from her!
- her only-girlfriend

What i didn‘t like:
- that the fmc had no backbone for herself
- he fucking her because he could AND SHE LET HIM and then him retreating behind his emotional wall… In the beginning it was ok because it created tension. But at 70% i was so over it…
- the fact that she let him treat her like meat.
- no groveling in the end. She forgave him immediately
- at around 50% in i knew what is going to happen (it did…)
