This is my first fantasy book; I knew I want to read something steampunk, and so this book just made perfect sense for my start.
And I loved it! The worldbuilding is fantastic. It's compelling, fresh, and still has an air of mystery given how not everything about the time system is revealed yet. I also like the excerpt about the gods that the people worship.
The protagonist, Danny, also underwent satisfactory character development, and I like the range of well-rounded side characters to add to the flair of the story (shoutout to Daphne, Cassie, and Brandon). I also adored Danny and Colton's relationship, and I'm rooting for them until the end.
My only critique is that the plot moved so slowly. I felt like nothing much happened during the first 2/3 of the book, only mysteries building up to the climax which happened at about the 80% mark. It paid off, though, but I wish the action happened sooner. edit: I would also like to add that I predicted exactly what would happen lmao, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I still think it was executed well.
I am very excited to read the other two books in the series, as the story compelled me enough to do so. I hope the future books reveal more about the magic system and the concept of time surrounding their world, and I also hope we see more of Colton breaking out of his shell. Maybe it's just me, but I wanna see him fighting /with/ Danny next.
4.5 stars!

Longer review to come. In a nutshell, I loved everything about this book and was pulled in from the very first page. The writing is superb and I love the alternate London with its steampunk elements. It wasn't too different, just different enough. And I love the mythology behind the clocks and clock spirits! The short interludes with mythology were really cool, I loved the stories. Most of all, I loved the characters, especially Danny. And the rooooomance!! The m/m romance! Ahh! It was so great, very Casper in some ways, and very sweet (with lots of kissing!). The action really ramps up in the second half too and it's all very exciting and tragic. I couldn't imagine how the book was so long and part of a series, but now I already want more. The pacing was excellent and it felt magical and charming. There's so much to this world and these characters. I've only read The Archived but I can see fans of Victoria Schwab loving this, along with fans of historical fiction mixed with a bit of fantasy, and fans of swoony lovely ships :D Can't wait to own a copy.
I reeeeeally enjoyed this book and its world where time is zones managed by magnificent clock towers, and their spirits.
The audiobook was great, contributing a lot to the atmosphere and tone of this very London-y feeling novel. I'll be checking out the others in this serious, for sure.

Awww, this story was super sweet and also quite unique! I loved the time-based magic system in this gently steampunk alt-Victorian England. Though the antagonist didn't come as a surprise to me at all, I still enjoyed watching the story unravel. I'm very intrigued to see where it goes next!

Took me over a month to read, but still a great book. Full review to come.
DNF at 19%. It’s an interesting concept and I might come back to it at another time, but it hasn’t pulled me in yet, and at this point I don’t know if it’s going to. So I’m giving up on it for now; it’s not what I want to be reading at the moment. Giving it three stars because I can see the story is there and the writing is decent. I’m just not in the mood for it.
I enjoyed this book, but I wasn't totally in love with it. The plot 'twists' felt obvious to me, and I was much less invested in the characters than I was with the concept of time and how the world worked, but there wasn't enough worldbuilding in that regard for my tastes. Still, it was enjoyable, the narrator for the audio book was good.
I know this is part one of a series, but this first book stands pretty well on its own - I'm not sure that I'll continue with the series, but we'll see.
