Everything felt overly explained and redundant. Plus, they were both uninteresting to me. They never communicated well and yet that’s what the entire book was about, Mac winning his wife back. However, all their talks were cut by constant thoughts about how sexy the other was and sex. And even though he kept thinking he’d not given her proper due, he still kept thinking of her as not spending money right, even getting mad at her for the ranch and yet not telling her about his investments. If he thinks of her as a partnership, he never acted like it. It was like she needed to roll over on his every whim and be thankful for it. It was frustrating.

Mac & Teri...

*pauses*

*shakes head*

Okay. I want to start by saying I loved this book.

Now... their marriage was a trip. Given his line of work, this makes perfect sense though. His personality and time away from home would naturally lead to this.

*pauses*

No spoilers.

So, anyway, this story is not what I typically devour. This is a marriage ten years in. And while a lot of the times I feel stories that start that deep in can be missing the excitement of new love, this one did not miss anything.

There was the right amount of excitement. Mac and Teri grew and you could see that they would continue to grow.

I loved that she wasn't trying to change him she was...

*pauses*

No spoilers.

Pick this book up and read it.

Brenda Jackson has quite a pen. I am excited to dive into some of her back list. I have to tie a rope to the side cause she has a zillion books.

I got a copy from Net Galley but then, on that same day, purchased a copy from WalMart because it was one of only two books by black authors in their romance section. Glad to have the paperback because the epilogue made me throw the book.

*taps foot and patiently waits for May 2020*

The one with Thurston (Mac), alpha SEAL idiot, and Terri, wife & mother of 4 holding everything together while her oblivious husband leaves for 6-8 months at a time. There was a lot of .. wait.. WTF in this book. In the middle of an argument, a freaking tornado falls from the sky, putting them in forced proximity to escape. Then, while trapped in a mine shaft Mac decides he should take the time to get a work out in (seriously!). Also Mac has a GPS chip implanted for just in case reasons. While out to eat Terri saves a girl from being abducted, which came out of no where but was used as a plot device to show Mac that his amazing wife is smart, brave, and turns out can think pretty well for her damn self. This guy is mostly a self important jack-ass but he's hot, so Terri deals with his bullshit.

This might be my first Brenda Jackson and she looped back in what felt like 15 characters from other books that I mostly herbs (yada-yada'd). Their names/relationships/wives/kids/locations really didn't matter.

Mac McRoy is a navy SEAL who works hard and expects nothing but blind obedience from his wife Terri. In Mac’s absence, he depends on his parents to assist Teri to with managing the household and raising their four daughters (nine year old Tia, seven year old Tatum, five year old Tempest, and three year old Tasha. Although Teri loves Mac dearly and feels he’s a wonderful provider and father, she feels he is taking her and their marriage for granted.

When Mac returns home after a nine month covert mission and finds his parents waiting at the house but Teri is not there, he is furious. He is angry that she left and didn’t tell him why. Unbeknownst to Mac, Teri is dealing with grief from a recent sudden loss as well as trying to figure out how to tell Mac that she has made a large purchase which will affect their entire family.

Mac goes to the Torchlight Dude Ranch in Wyoming to get to the bottom of why Teri left their house. Over the course of two days, Teri and Mac have several conversations and eventually, they rediscover their love for each other.

During the course of the book, Mac realizes how important Teri is to not just his children but him as well. Through several life threatening situations, Teri shows Mac that she is strong, resourceful and selfless. By the end of the book, Mac admits that he has not been treating Teri as a equal partner in their marriage but more like a employee. Mac promises to try to work daily to show Teri how much she means to him and in return, Teri shows Mac his much she trusts him as head of the McRoy family and the keeper of her heart.
