Thanks to @grandcentralpub for my gifted copy! How Medicine Works and When it Doesn’t does a great job of breaking down the factors that lead to the erosion of trust between doctors and patients, the ways that doctors view risk differently than patients do, how medical research works and how to be a better consumer of medical research, and the problems with our current healthcare system. Wilson shares facts, data, and personal stories to illustrate his points.

And, even better, he provides solutions to a lot of these issues. Some are micro – how to equip yourself to get the most out of your time with your physician and ensure you’re making the right healthcare decisions for you. And some are macro – healthcare reform that doesn’t necessarily need to be single payor to make a huge difference in the affordability of healthcare.

Definitely a must-read for anyone trying to make sense of healthcare in America or who wants to be a savvier patient.
