Definitely a book for teenagers. It's hard to like the main character because of her temper that is horrible. However, the world of Croak and its concept is interesting, which makes it a read I might recommend to a young girl. I'm not sure yet if I will read the next one of the series, as I feel like they probably went as far as they could with the concept...

This book was like a sandwich. The beginning and the end were sometimes flavorless, sometimes a downright nuisance, because I was all about the tasty, tasty middle. It took me a while to get into the book, so it was disappointing to once again be let down at the end. Still, there is that rather awesome middle part. Complete review to come.

I saw this book here, read the blurb, and immediately wanted it.

And what a trip it was. Reapers, only not like you know them. I laughed a whole lot of times, the girl has a great attitude, and she needs that attitude since some people didn't like her being there.

I loved Uncle Mort, he was awesome. Loved how he always knew what she and
Spoilerlater her boyfriend
were up to.

Lots of action, comedy and ofcourse Death. :)

I like this book despite the fact that the heroine's got too much adrenaline and that's a bit over the top for me but Driggs too adorable and the conversations between Lex and Driggs just amuse me to no end. The world-building is okay though I find the first book a bit confusing, and there is not much of a climax except near the end, even that didn't really arouse my interest, at least not strong enough for me to want to continue. I also made the unfortunate mistake of skimming through reviews for the first book and realizing the future of the characters. I would recommend others to avoid making the same mistake or that will spoil your interest of further reading.

Another book I picked up for a challenge here on Goodreads that I am so happy I had the pleasure to read. This is a great book and I can not wait to read the next two.

Lexington is a twin who has gone on somewhat of a delinquent streak. Her family and her sister love her very much and always stood up for her. She was a straight A student till anger got a hold of her and she started using her fists. She was sent off to her Uncle Mort's to curve her delinquent streak. However Uncle Mort's is more then the little farm upstate that she thought she was being sent to. She is taught to be a Grim.
SpoilerNot just any grim but one of the quickest the town has seen. People however are skeptical of why and how she got to Croak. She falls in love, had heart ache and fights with the idea of not helping the people that she is killing, by killing their killers.
Spoiler I had to spoiler the spoiler I can not believe what Zara did, and who died in Driggs' life. AHH there is not much. Cordy =(

I very much enjoyed the story, although I saw it coming pretty much from the beginning that Zara was the Bad Guy...I was, however, shocked by Cordy's death - I kept thinking it was going to be reversible. Usually series like this don't have such a depressing death until the second or third installment. I thought the author did an amazing job creating the world of the Grims and I loved the multitude of interesting minor characters, although in some cases they seem to be a little cliched - the adults who hate Lex for no particular reason - but that is true of a lot of books, and possibly there is a reason and we just don't know it yet.

Sixteen year old Lex (Lexington) has been raising hell lately. She is the complete opposite of her twin, Cordy. Lex gets into fights, bullies people, and curses in a very unladylike fashion. So her parents decide to send her to live with her creepy uncle for the summer, hoping it will straighten her out by the time she goes back for her senior year.

When Lex gets to the small town where her Uncle Mort lives, called Croak, she is thrown into a world she never imagined existed. And Lex is given a summer job--Killer. She helps transport the souls of the dead to the underworld. And shockingly to Lex and everyone in Croak, she's good at it--maybe too good.

But then things start going wrong when people start mysteriously dropping dead of unknown causes. It's up to Lex, and her cranky partner Driggs, to find out what really going on before it happens in their town, too.

Oh wow, this book was such a breath of fresh air! I LOVED everything about it! Lex was so, so snarky and funny. Her partner Driggs didn't disappoint either. At first when I saw that she was going to have a male partner, I was like, "Ohhh no, please no insta-love!" And it definitely was not. Although Lex and Driggs have a great chemistry, and I love them together, blessedly they were not all over each other from the get go.

I loved the setting and everything about the town, Croak. Characters' names and the names of places in town are symbolic and hilariously inappropriate puns having to do with death: Uncle Mort, Corpp's Bar, The Morgue Diner, Elysia. This was so original and made me smile.

Lex is a great, strong female main character. She swears like crazy and some things she said literally made me laugh out loud, because in my head I could imagine the awkwardness. The only person she really connected with before coming to Croak was her twin sister, and I loved that even though she was so tough to everyone else in the world, her sister was always her one sensitive spot.

The mysterious plot in this book was awesome. I literally had no inkling of who was behind the murders until I got the the point where the murderer was revealed. The author did a fantastic job of not using too much foreshadowing to the point where the story was predictable.

I tore through this book in less than a day, and I can't wait for the next one (I'm guessing it's a series, the way it ended). PLEASE pick up this book if you need a change from all the other super serious paranormal books that are floating around right now!
