I was hoping for something else with this book. I am sad that he lost his wife, but at the same time, there was something that rubbed me the wrong way about it.

I read this book for support/resources for caregiving. I take care of my mother and the forward made it seem like this would be a good resource for that but this is best suited for people caring for their partners.
Part 3 is the main part of this that's a guide and that gave this review 1-2 more stars than I was planning to give
Parts 1, 2, & 4 were a memoir about the author's journey in caring for his wife with MS. Some advice and learned lessons were sprinkled in. The main takeaways from this memoir: author was VERY successful and VERY healthy and LOVED having sex with his wife and talking about how sexy she was

Ableism and a strange abundance of racism are abound in this book, which details one well-resourced white man's experience of caregiving, while living on waterfront property in Hawai'i. Other notable sentiments in this book include: the author's disparaging feelings about the healing capacity of acupuncture (plus, his "knowing that the Chinese... were quite frugal people"??); his assessment of his wife's sexiness, "even in the wheelchair" (as though being a wheelchair user obviously takes away from a person's attractiveness...); and his inexplicable anecdote about a "Vietnamese psychic".
