This book was phenomenal. Not only is it a great Star Wars book, but it also is a great science fiction book. You could read this book without having seen Solo or having read any other Star Wars books, and you would enjoy it, it was incredibly well written. Here lately, I've been slogging through most of my reads, but this one was so refreshing. I really enjoyed the writing style, it added a lot to the book. I also really enjoyed all the characters. This book was great to read after seeing Solo because it really dives into Qi'ra's motivations, and some of the choices she makes in the movie. I loved how we saw her grow. The characterization of Han was really well done too. It was great to see him in this novel, before he was a pilot. I liked that part of it. Overall, I think this is a solid Star Wars book, and ten times better then the last YA Star Wars book I read.

I had somehow previously convinced myself that I read this when I had not!
This is 3.5, not 3. It was a perfectly adequate young adult Star Wars story. It was a quick read, multiple points of view, and provided a good setup for the film. It ticked all of the boxes, but I don't think it's a new favorite or something that I would want to reread.
I honestly think that if I hadn't read it after emerging from some of my new favorites, it definitely would have pulled a higher rating, but that's just how it goes sometimes.
I like the way that Rae wrote both Han and Qi'ra and how the relationship genuinely felt more like a friendship for the entire book. Young adult tends to depend too heavily on romantic relationships, so I appreciated the solid friendships that developed.

It was basically a simple story, setting up the background for their friendship. It accomplishes it that fairly well. It was a simple read.
A quick and action-packed read of Han and Qi’ra that takes place before the Solo movie. This story centers on them becoming friends and learning to trust each other as they’ve been working alone until this story develops. They are joined by a third Rodian character who I actually liked a lot. This is fairly by the numbers as far as Star Wars books go, and nothing really special, but still a quick and fun adventure.
This book started so well. The narrative was gripping, and I found myself trying to work out what would happen but couldn't. It was great to get a story of Han set before the 'Solo' film. I liked getting to know Qi'ra more, and these books really focused on her. Her character development and explanation really fitted her role in the Solo film. In the film, I didn't really connect with Qi'ra, but this story made me care about her. I feel like I learnt a lot more about Rodians and found myself getting super attached to Tsuulo. Altogether, I really enjoyed the book. Unlike other YA fiction, this book didn't centre on romance but rather a friendship and what it meant for the group to work together.
I was excited to get a glimpse of Han's life prior to the start of the events in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The reader will get more exposure to Corellia and characters such as Q'ira, Lady Proxima, and Rebolt from the film, but also a hand full of new characters. I feel like Carson wrote Han well, fool-hearty and cocky as we know him. It was a fun adventure, but didn't hit all the beats that I love from Star Wars books. However, It was just what I needed to feed my Solo enthusiasm.
This makes me appreciate these characters so much more. I'm ready to rewatch the movie again.
Hmmm, well, I wanted to really like this book. It was a fun little adventure. But I just couldn't get past how unbelievable/impractical it was. Quira is supposed to be so mistrustful of everyone, but then makes a decision based on her companions. She is so desperate to better herself, but then makes a decision against doing so. She finally gets what she wants but then that wouldn't mesh well with the beginning of Solo. I think it was an attempt to make Quira a complicated character, but she just throws away her entire nature every once in a while just for the hell of it. However, I do hope there will be a Quira stand alone that fills in the gap after Han gets off Corelia. And perhaps the two other movies that were supposed to follow Solo will be made into books. Overall: Fun little adventure, but the characters were too simplistic and the adventure too unbelieveable.
