With this type of book, so much of it hangs on whether you buy the voice or not. I didn't. Nicki/Charlotte didn't seem like a real person to me -- certainly not a product of a traumatic childhood and dozens of foster homes, and not like a 13-year-old girl, either. The other teenagers didn't seem like teenagers and the mobsters resembled only the most cartoonish of mobsters.

A passage that stuck out to me: Charlotte and her friend are at the mall, and three Mean Girls emerge from a Delia*s to torment them. "I'm totally blogging about this later!" crows the Lead Mean Girl about the encounter.

Okay. The last physical Delia*s retail store closed in 2015 (and the brand stopped being cool around 1999 if I am being GENEROUS). Also, Modern Teens do not talk about "blogging." That's a total anachronism; she would probably snapchat that shit. The irony is that Burt has an earlier passage making fun of another adult character's attempt at teen lingo -- and then there's this.

This is not in any way an ill-intentioned or mean-spirited book, but I did not buy the world or the characters for one minute, and frankly I was bored.

This book has such great voice. I loved Nicki/Charlotte's journey through the novel. She is a witty, grounded character-an old soul.

Honestly, this would be a way better movie than a book. The plot seemed interesting but the author (in my opinion) did not execute it well. I thought the main character was ok. I just wanted to be done with it. I don't recommend it.

I'm not sure what it is about this that didn't totally wow me. I liked it, though, and I thought it made some really lovely points about the family you choose, and about dealing compassionately with someone who's working through their issues.

I wanted to love this more than I did, but I think it was because I was expecting more of a thriller. The ending was pretty exciting, but the book focuses more on the middle school/family experience than the witness protection side of things. I do think kids would really enjoy it if they knew that going in!

Clever and witty...couldn't stop laughing. Loved this book. Nicki was amazing and the author had the annoying and angsty yet somehow still loveable little brother down pat. Unfortunately, no matter how much I loved it, I still had two small problems with it. I wished we had seen more of Erin and A. J. and had them back in her life somehow at some point, and I thought Jonathan had been a little flat, as we get more in-depth with Harriet but he just played the role of supportive husband and good dad. While that's fine and I still liked him, I thought there could have been more. But I enjoyed the rest of this book too much to give it anything less than 5 stars.

I am literally kicking myself for not checking this out sooner. Greetings from Witness Protection! had me feeling all the feels and I loved it.

This book was funny, suspensful, comforting and their were even a few moments were I had to fight tears. I loved the characters, especially our main character, Nicki. The author does a good job of stressing the importance of family, friendship, and doing the right thing even in the face of severe adversity. Right from the start, Jake Burt, hooks you and you can't help but dive in and go along for the ride. This was such a unique story and it just works. I wish their would have been more, because I did not want it to end. I can't wait to read more of Mr. Burt's work.

Just hard for me to understand the whys and the how’s. I also couldn’t relate to the character or care for her at all.
