This book was good—I just don’t think memoirs are my cup of tea. I feel bad giving this book (and I’m Glad My Mom Died) 4 stars. How am I supposed to critique someone’s truth?

Listening to this one on audio was definitely the way to go. With his background in poetry, Jones is able to make everything told in his story flow with such impact. I look forward to check out some of his actual poetry in the future.

Beautifully written coming-of-age memoir of a gay black man trying to find acceptance in himself. Also explores the tumultuous but fiercely loving relationship he had with his single mother.
