This book has a superb opening, but can't maintain that level. The story feels a little bit disjointed as if it is a retelling of an organically grown roleplaying game. The ending part does some very clever things though.
This book has both a very classical SF feel with hard biological science, but on the other side, there are lots of social themes and messages. There are also lots of references to SF classics.

I can't say what I loved about the book without spoiling it, so I'll just say I wish Dr Khan got more attention and development, she was my favorite, and the end starts to drag a bit but it's intentional I believe. A very good sci-fi book with lots of easily digestible writing about incomprehensible subjects

I'd have given it 4.5 stars but there was some elements to the characters that I felt were unnecessary. The characters were rich and interesting but some elements of it were just a lot on top of an already complex story. Very good read though. I'd definitely recommend it.

4.5 stars really. I loved this book, but it really did drag a bit in the middle. This would be a 5 star smash hit if the first few sections were condensed.

I see a lot of mixed reviews for this book and I really flip-flopped many times throughout on whether I loved it or hated it. I've come to the conclusion it's actually a fantastic book. I don't like being tossed around through different points of view but this was actually well done. All parts of this book were needed in the end to tell the story and were really well integrated. You think at the beginning you'll have to figure this shit out and piece it all together afterward but the author does a fantastic job of doing that for you as you go along without you realizing it's happening. I highly recommend if you want a fun and original science fiction stand-alone.
