Very interesting concept. But not a good story. It took way too long to set up, and it was very exposition heavy. I prefer story through human interaction, not through plot dump and deus ex.
Premise was excellent, worlbuilding good, characters OK but quite 2-dimensional, plot was variable with a lot of running around action segments which do nothing for me in written fiction. Worth reading but that's it - was glad to finish.

I'd like to high five doctor Kay Khan, she is my new favorite character. There is some transphobia from the bad guys, but that is clearly to prove a point.
I adore doctor Khan and I am glad that she and the other lgbt+ characters are not written as caricatures or being killed off. And I enjoyed the whole multiverse thing going on and the knives out vibes.
It is also very interesting to see this one star review where someone is clearly having a terfy, homophobic temper tantrum.
Like, some people in the reviews said that it wasn't the author's best book and had some valid points (I enjoyed it though), but this one star review was very clearly an terfy, homophobic temper tantrum.

Parallel universes!
Quite interesting. Really liked the interludes exploring the different ways the other Earth's diverged in terms of fauna and intelligence. I was intrigued by all the characters but I'm not sure they all got enough time to breath and be fleshed out. The ending was also great.

Overall enjoyed it but really agree with some other reviews I read that the main characters didn't really do much for the story! They were all a bit blank. Lee had so little character, and Mal barely too even though they started out as the key protagonists. Lots of leftist angles for the story especially Kay who great pains were taken to mention she was trans at every opportunity even though it has zero impact on the story. And the baddy deliberately getting her pronouns wrong. But some cool ideas and interesting resolution.
EDIT after thinking about it a bit more after I changed to 3 stars. There are just lot of flaws and annoyances in the book.
