Always an exciting writer, I loved the first half of this novel. Interesting concepts, characters and plot developments kept me interested. But something like I noticed with his other novels, the pacing can be so fast that I start to lose my attachment to what is going on. Towards the end I was a bit disenchanted and ready for the novel to be over.

It bothered me that the author kept repeatedly pointing out that one character was Trans. She's Trans, please move on.

I kept waiting for something more from this book...that never came. The beginning was promising, and I still think like Children of Time, Adrian Tchaikovsky has really great ideas (and this very occasionally had thrilling/intriguing moments), but I don't think I like his writing or execution very much. Yes, this reads quickly and has all the adventure that a story about parallel Earths bleeding into one another could have. But I wanted more- more characterization, more worldbuilding/lore as we got glimpses into the different Earths, more thrills. I kept waiting, but I don't think we ever got beyond some surface level anything. The book honestly got less and less exciting as I read on. Which for a story like this the excitement steadily fizzled out.

I love Adrian Tchaikovsky’s evolution-based sci-fi! It’s so fascinating and engrossing. I really enjoyed the pictures he painted of all the other Earths, and all the other ways that life could have developed here.
