This book said so much while saying nothing at all. I was under the false impression that this would just be a duology, but recently learned it will be a trilogy and this makes so much more sense. This book felt like it was just dragging on the main conflict from the first book, and it really did not work for me. The whole book felt repetitive and boring. The characters hardly change but they keep talking about how different they are.

A main critique of the first book for people was that the characters were pretentious, and boy does it get worse in this book. I didn't mind so much in the first book, but I found myself constantly rolling my eyes at the characters and the writing. It really went downhill, and I don't think I will be reading the third novel.

The chemistry between characters was almost nonexistent, and the magic system feels like it was an afterthought. There is SO much telling and not showing. The first 75% of the book was incredibly slow and nothing was happening, until a character just basically says "Oh, you thought I was doing nothing? Here is how I actually solved our whole problem" in like two pages. This was brutal to get through, and I'm just glad I won't have to look at this book again.

When I had only read The Atlas Six, I loved it and would recommend to everyone, but now... I think it's just fine. This trilogy just seems like the first book went well, and instead of focusing on developing a good story, the author just wanted to ride the cash wave as long as she could. It really ruined the whole franchise for me.
