An eye-opening and absorbing exploration of English football clubs' youth academies, the good, the bad, and the occasionally ugly. The book focuses on boys football but includes a chapter on girls' academies.
Slightly chaotically structured and sometimes repetitive. The long quotes from academy staff are generous and often illuminating but can also be incoherent and full of cliché footballese which could have done with more editing or narrative interpretation.
